Cost of Ring(s)?!

I was a teeny bit irritated bc my FH insisted on a gold wedding band. He is NOT a jewelry person. I have been with him for 5 and a half years and I've never seen him wear a single piece of jewelry. How much did you spend on your significant other's wedding band?

My FH and I both have zero tattoos! I feel like I'm the only person under 35 who doesn't have them.

So my fiance showed me what he wanted and what he liked and I went off of that and his ring cost me like $250 it's Tungsten, so it's doable to find something not so pricey of that is what you are worried about

I just wanted to add that maybe you could find something for him to store his ring in while he’s wearing the silicone one for lifting weights.

We just last minute eloped and so I had no idea what to even expect for ring cost and bought my husband a silicone band which he wore permanently. Just as a heads up the silicone holds onto moisture a lot and caused his finger to look like when you wear a bandaid for too long! He said it started to feel weird. He’s also suuuper forgetful so I got him a little leather thing that when he does remember to switch his ring it goes in something safe so he doesn’t lose it. I know it’s going to be a process like any habit of remembering to switch but like any habit it takes time!
I asked him ultimately what he wanted since he never wears anything and we went with a wooden ring with a small strip of yellow gold in it. It cost more than I expected ($680) but the wood came from a WW2 US Navy ship and the inside has Jack Daniels whiskey barrel wood inlay. I would have NEVER expected this out of him but it made him happy. I just made sure we got something for him to safely keep it in since his profession will lead him to mostly wear the silicone one. Hopes this helps!

My engagement ring costs about $10K and my wedding band is less than $1k. I spent $1,500 on his wedding band. My FH isn't a jewelry person. He doesn't have a single piece of jewelry except his watch. He told me that he wants to wear a ring to show everyone that he is taken! At first he told me that he didn't care if I would buy him a cheap ring. But to me, it is just something that he will have on for the rest of his life. I want him to have a nice one. Just a thought that my FH wanted me to have a nice ring, the same one (unless he will upgrade later for a bigger diamond!) for the rest of my life. I wanted him to feel the same.

It also depends on how much you can afford but 4 for $10 from walmart is a bit cheap for something that he will be wearing for the rest of his life, no? Silicone ring won't last forever. Gold, White gold, Rose gold or Platinum will last. Tungsten rings can't be resized if you need to resize the ring later on since you mentioned that he is trying to lose weight. There are so many options out there that you can get a good quality gold band for a good price. Just talk to him and be honest how much you can afford it. It is always good to communicate. Maybe you can get him a 10K gold wedding band for $100 online and get him silicone one for the gym??

It is not always about objects. It is a thought that is counted. Smiley winking

It's his wedding band, why should he only spend $10 on it when I imagine that yours was far more expensive? My FH is not a jewelry person but we still spent about $300 on his.

We got my hubby's black and rose gold tungsten ring for about $150 but I want to surprise him with a better one he should get something expensive and fancy just like you. It may be hard to believe but they get just as excited for their rings

You can still get rings that are on the cheaper side that are gold. Mine I got from Kohls it is very thin and was $75 and my husbands was a plain white gold band for $200. I believe mine is sterling silver, I dont really know 😂 it does the job though

After reading through the comments, the only thing I have to add is this: I think you did the right thing by buying him the ring he wanted! I know you weren't crazy about the cost, but for a ring that symbolizes your love that he'll wear every day for forever, and because it's the one he wanted, I'm sure he will appreciate it. As for the concern about him damaging it while lifting weights or anything else that might ruin it, I definitely recommend getting insurance on the ring. That way, if it's damaged, it will either be repaired or replaced at no cost (or very low cost, depending on the insurance). Check with the jeweler to ask about insurance options, or check online (such as, Jewelers Mutual). Typically, ring insurance isn't very expensive (though it also depends on the jewelry being insured), but will be well worth it in case it is ever lost or stolen or damaged.

Check out Groove rings. They are silicone bands with small grooves on the under surface to help skin breathe and prevent irritation. My husband has one and when he's working out he's pretty much like a human faucet - lots of sweat!

Is it possible your husband's band fits too tightly or does he have a really cheap band that is maybe made of inferior materials? I work as an athletic director and coach sports or teach fitness classes daily and have a silicone band as well (Enso rings, mine does not have breathability grooves). I wear my silicone band all day most days of the week and because of Covid I'm cleaning my hands often, but have not had any skin issues. Both my husband and I remove our rings at night.

Oh good to know! My husband is in sports entertainment (professional mascot) and omg does he sweat A LOT. I’ll have to check into a different silicone ring for it. It came free with his real ring purchase so it’s possible it’s cheap but I love the idea of the grooves for breathability!

    Thank you so much!

I work as a college athletic director and those mascot costumes are super hot and sweaty! I can't think of many professions where you are in a more "sweaty ring" environment. My husband rides bikes and will wear gloves and go on a ride for a couple hours and come back thoroughly drenched, but he hasn't complained of "trench ring" at all. He opted for the Groove ring because of the breathability grooves. It could just be a marketing gimmick but seems to work for him.

Also a lot of silicone rings only come in full sizes (some come in half sizes, none come in quarter sizes that I know of) because they are flexible. So if your husband is between sizes it might be worth trying a size up or down to see if that helps (it might be your husband has a 10.5 ring size and a size 10 silicone ring came with his fancy ring, but he would actually be better off with a size 11 silicone ring). My silicone ring doesn't have any grooves but is the same size as my rose gold rings (size 6) which is technically a quarter size bigger than my measured size (5.75, but I felt more comfortable in the 6 and also couldn't risk not being able to remove my rings because of my work). I feel like if my ring was tighter I might end up with a sweaty finger more.
