Cost of Ring(s)?!

I was a teeny bit irritated bc my FH insisted on a gold wedding band. He is NOT a jewelry person. I have been with him for 5 and a half years and I've never seen him wear a single piece of jewelry. I wanted to get him a pack of silicone rings from Wal-Mart 4 for $10. He goes "there's a difference...

How much did you spend on your significant other's wedding band?

Okay, Melanie. Thanks for sharing. His dad wears a $50 ring and his mom wears no ring at all. Their 50th wedding anniversary is in 27 days.

Not sure why the comparison of being bothered was necessary.... Especially since we're in complete different situations.
He doesn't plan on buying me a secomd ring.
His parents have been married for 50 years and his mom wears no ring at all.

I would have been perfectly happy if he proposrd to me with a silicone ring! I do not put happiness in objects. His parents have been married for 50 years and his mom never got an engagement ring, nor wears any rings at all.
My parents never wore wedding rings either.

Woah! I don't think the cost of a ring correlates to a person's love! It's through actions. My parents never wore rings at all. His parents have been married for 50 years and his dad never bought his mom a ring. Oh and my FH doesnt plan on buying me a wedding band.
I love my FH just as much as you love yours. Our priorities in spending money on jewlery are just different.

    Hi Willow!
I highly disagree. My love language is different than yours. I never place love in objects. My FHs parents have been married for FIFTY years and they treat eachother like a queen and king. They didn't buy each other wedding rings. His mom doesn't wear a ring at all.
One's actions are how they view the relationship, not how much money they spend. I would have been just as pleased if he proposed with silicone rings. Also my parents never bought nor wore rings during their marriage.

    *teeny bit irritating.

I honestly think he'll damage it from lifing weights, lose it or forget to wear it.
    Thanks for your opinion

Hi there! Our priorities (and probably financial situations) are different. I graduated with a LOT of student loan debt abd we are saving for a house. I would rather put $1K in our debt or savings right now and revisit buying expensive rings after we're debt free!

I’m sorry to hear that—people get very intense about wedding stuff!

I want to add a note because I thought about my comment about matching what your ring cost, but I forgot that many couples pay for each ring on their own (my FH & I are jointly paying for everything, including all the rings, so we had more like a “total total” knowing that if my e-ring was too much we’d have less for wedding bands, etc.). If you guys are paying for each other’s I realIzed the situation might be very different in terms of budget! Can you talk to your FH about your concerns? Maybe he hasn’t thought of it the same way as you. Or maybe he hadn’t considered other options besides gold.

I personally think it’s a little unfair to be mad that he wanted a gold band when he spent probably a lot of money on your engagement ring/paired with a wedding band. Just because he doesn’t wear jewelry doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a nice ring that he can wear to symbolize you getting married
