im just not sure what is average price and what is too much. I met a guy who plays the cello at a bridal show his rate was $250 for ceremony and cocktail hour, i felt this was affordable but now im having a hard time getting a hold of him an im starting to look at other options--

I have played (violin) for many weddings and my price is $200 for 15 minute prior to ceremony and the ceremony, and $250 to include cocktail hour.

*Edited because: After reading the first round of comments, I also suggest contacting your local schools. I did multiple weddings when I was in HS and obviously we took whatever they offered us, because we just wanted to get a gig. I think I used to get $50-100 back then. The orchestra instructor will be able to tell you which students are actually good enough to be able to work for you too. Good luck!

We are paying $500 for a steel drummer for both the ceremony and cocktail hour (2 hours total).

I work for performers and we always factor in not only our time at the event but also transportation, rehearsal to learn the music you want played, wardrobe costs/rental if needed. I won't take less than $300 for my peoples time and talent.
