Cost of LIVE Musicians for Ceremony...

Angel_D, on December 1, 2014 at 12:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

Im looking into having one or two people play live strings for my ceremony/cocktail hour...

im just not sure what is average price and what is too much. I met a guy who plays the cello at a bridal show his rate was $250 for ceremony and cocktail hour, i felt this was affordable but now im having a hard time getting a hold of him an im starting to look at other options--

What are people paying for live music?

For our ceremony we're having a pianist for a 30 minute block (our ceremony will be short and sweet). Including travel, it's 250.

We got a great deal and are having a violin/violin/cello combo for 3 hours for only $600. They are not a wedding band and the head guy is best friends with my brother. Idk if we are getting a discount or if that's their regular price. From what i've seen, at least in Arizona, a 3 piece strings group would have been $500 for the ceremony, if I'm remembering correctly.

We had a string quartet for the ceremony and cocktail hour - 2 hours total. I believe it was $650. Well worth it. It added so much.

A friend had a high school quartet play at her wedding and she paid them less than $100. And they were good. You could always look into that or a college student who is studying music and plays. Just make sure they're reliable. (This quartet arrangement was made through the orchestra teacher at the school)

I'm paying $125 for a pianist at the ceremony (1 hour including some preceremony playing), She said I could get a cellist for an extra $125 but I'm happy with the pianist I think especially since I have to pay for tuning of the piano.

We are very fortunate in this area. All of the venues we are considering include musicians and soloists in the fee.

We are having a string quartet (violin, 2 violas and cello) play for the ceremony, cocktail hour and during dinner, so probably 3.5 hours. Total cost will be $1600. These are professional musicians that play in orchestras around the country that will be in Wyoming for the Grand Teton Music Festival, so I feel particularly excited!

For 2 hours (ceremony and cocktail hour) I am having a string trio and its going to cost $665. That was the least expensive quote I got (I live in Maryland, outside of Baltimore) but the group has 20 years of experience and is a preferred vendor at my venue.

I second the idea of high school kids. My school's orchestra is one of the best in the state and have won top honors at nationals as well. Many have played at weddings before. Talk to a local school!

We're having a string quartet for the ceremony (probably 2 hours time) and they're charging me $500. It usually costs more, but the cellist is a good friend and donating her playing for free Smiley smile

We paid $350 for one hour. We had two musicians, a cellist and a violinist. It added a lot of ambiance to the ceremony.

We are having two musicians and they were each $250. They will be playing for the half hour before as guests arrive and throughout the duration of the ceremony, which will likely be very short. So maybe 45 minutes to an hour total?

$150 for a guitarist during the ceremony and $3,500 for a 5-person band during the entire reception. We also tipped $100. The musicians were amazing! Well worth the price.
