Good morning ladies. I've been thinking about my dress a lot (more so since it's been hanging in my closet instead of at my MOHs). I always thought I wanted to have a corset/lace up back on my wedding dress but mine just has a zipper. Has anyone had there's altered to be corset? Do you think it...

Good morning ladies. I've been thinking about my dress a lot (more so since it's been hanging in my closet instead of at my MOHs). I always thought I wanted to have a corset/lace up back on my wedding dress but mine just has a zipper. Has anyone had there's altered to be corset? Do you think it would look ok on my dress? I saw on someone's BAM the other day (can't remember whose) and she had a corset but you couldn't see the loose ends...do they just get tucked in the dress somewhere? I don't think it would look right on my dress to have the excess string tied in a bow or something. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance Smiley smile

I think corset backs look best with mermaid type dresses, because corset backs are reminiscent of lingerie and mermaid dresses are a sexier silhouette. I like your dress the way it is, and I think a corset back might look out of place. But you should do whatever will make you happiest/most comfortable.

I hear that adding a corset can get pricey (it can be done of course). My dress has a corset, and i love it, if I lose a little it will just need to be pulled a little more Smiley winking Also, i agree that almost all of them get tucked in.

I think a corset would look good with your dress, just keep in mind the cost to change it.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all of the input! Still not sure what I'm going to do but you all have made valid points Smiley smile

@Hannah...I will be wearing a veil (it's going to be fingertip length). I'm wearing a veil in this pic (duh) but it was just one we tried at the store.

My dress has a corset. I wanted a corset since I will be wearing my dress one Saturday for the ceremony and dinner and our dance reception is the following Saturday and I want to wear my dress for that too. I figured this way if it stretches some the first time I wear it, it isn't a big deal and can just be tied tighter.

I personally love the corset back on my dress, not only does it give me a little more a sexier curve (I'm chubby) but I just love the classic look of it. Corset backs scream sexy to me

I always wanted a zipper back with buttons going down the back. I ended up with a corset back. I think sometimes you end up with something slightly different from what you envisioned. If you've purchased the zipper back, I would NOT try to add in a corset. Looks like it already fits you beautifully & I would hate for your dress to get messed up trying to alter it....You look great!

I think your dress is perfect the way it is, but if you really like the look of a corset, then it might be worth doing. It would look nice either way.

Well it is going to have to be taken in a bit just above my butt area (that's where it's clipped in the above picture) lol, I have NO butt (white girl problems) so I was going to see if it'd just be easier/more cost effective to change the zipper to a corset...I think it might help accentuate my waist a little more and maybe give the illusion of a butt if I had a corset? Think I might just take it into an alterations place (besides David's Bridal where I originally planned on getting it altered) and see what they have to say.

I ended up loving the corset back (I had a ball gown) and wouldn't change it for a thing. It was so nice not having to worry about it not zipping the day-of. The key really is having someone go with you to fittings to learn how to lace it properly. We tucked my strings in (great pic of my BM feeling my leg up to find the string) and it stayed tight all day. Also helped with alterations-I paid a grand total of $64 for alterations. That was to take it in a tiny bit and for my bustle.

We've talked about this before, but I have the same dress, and I don't think I would add a corset back. I thought i wanted a corset, but I like the clean look of the zipper on this dress better. There's already a lot going on, and I think a corset would be too much. If you do get it done, would be mind showing me a picture and telling me how much you were quoted? Now you have me curious Smiley winking

I pictured a corset as well (but it wasn't a deal breaker) and I ended up with a dress with a zipper. The boutique said it would be VERY expensive to add a corset (hundreds of $&dollarSmiley winking but very inexpensive to add false buttons (like $15). So, I'm going to add buttons down the back and all the way down the train to give the back of the dress some more visual interest Smiley smile

Look at putting buttons with loops on the back of it. I love the pictures with buttons over zipper. All the corset back pictures make even the skinniest people look like they have back fat. I hate the look of bulge over the dress and I feel like people tie them so tight to cinch the waist and forget some of the best pictures are from the back like first dance pictures, most ceremony pictures. Bouquet toss...

My dress was meant to be zipper back but I ordered with a corset, and it fits my body perfectly! I think since your dress is a little fitted up top, a corset may help, but it also has an A-line bottom, so the zipper may be enough.
