Coronavirus ruining my destination wedding plans 3-20-20

Lesley-Anne, on March 13, 2020 at 9:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi all.. we are supposed to be getting married 1 week from today in Key West, FL.

We're trying to figure out if we should postpone or cancel the wedding. Maybe just elope the 2 of us and still go .. or try to get deposits back? The way things are going they just closed Monroe county schools for 2 weeks. Seems like everyone is going into lockdown and worried they will be shutting down venues.
Any advice?

Definitely talk to your venue. See about a possible plan b. We made a list of folks we had to have there, and if travel was going to be restricted than we knew we would most hate to lose. And honestly? This is a tough call for you guys. Our venue is saying business as usual, but I've heard other places that venues are having to close down for the month if not more. Call them and see your options. I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this. Good luck!

So sorry! I would reach out to VIP guests and see if they can still come as well as check with the vendors and venue. If everyone is on board but your guest count is lower, a lot of places will work with you. I think one week out, it's better to just get married than postpone! But ultimately, you will have to make the decision based on a lot of factors.

I’m supposed to get married in Key West 04.04.2020 at Fort Zachary Taylor (state park). I just read a post that all activities and events are to be cancelled at all Florida’s state parks but it doesn’t make clear if that includes private weddings since the parks are still technically open for day use. I’m in full panic mode and no one has respond to me yet about it. I feel your pain, I really really do. best of luck.

Just to update... we had to cancel our wedding. We will lose a lot of money if we don't postpone to a later date. 😭😭😭 My fiance wants to just have a small backyard wedding in NJ or CT where my mom lives and just cancel Key West altogether. It's a mess. Most vendors cant help with refunds because that is how they live and survive and they dont know when business will be back up. I dont know what to do... we are more than devastated.

We decided to postpone ours too (in Key West 4/4/2020). All my vendors gave me a future credit to use and will let me decide on a new date later on once we know how the Coronavirus will play out.

My 4/4 wedding at Fort Zach was also postponed... we rescheduled for 8/1. I'm praying it will be even more amazing when it happens. I have to stay positive!
