Corona Couples - Alternatives to big weddings?

Angie, on July 25, 2020 at 8:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Is anyone planning any alternatives to the usual big wedding/reception? Given the current pandemic situation? We already rescheduled once and don’t want to change the date again but maybe modify. Our guest list is half what it was before the pandemic began. 😲

Yeah, we had to reschedule too. We decided that regardless of what was going on in the world, August 29th would be our date. Seeing where things are at in the world, we have modified. We are doing an outdoor ceremony with immediate family. We are asking people to wear masks and we're blocking off spaces that are 6-feet apart while also giving the option for people to watch from their cars. I am NOT waiting to marry this man any longer lol. We're then going to have a picnic with them after, so it'll sort of be like a mini reception.

People are doing all kinds of things to adjust right now. Look up "minimony" - there are so many ideas about how to adjust wedding plans without having to totally postpone/reschedule. You can still have a cake, do a first dance, walk down the aisle, etc. AND if you want to do something small now and something bigger later, that's also something I'm hearing about people doing more and more right now.

We postponed our big reception because we already sent save the dates to a lot of people, but we're still having a small wedding on our original date. It will just be our immediate families, but we're still doing most of the things you would normally expect to see at a wedding: ceremony- dress, tux, vows, music, floral arch. Reception: tables with place cards and centerpieces, food, speeches, dessert.

Our original date is 10/10 and we are maintaining that date. However, we have moved on to Plan B, which is a scaled down event with 30-40 people max (instead of the original 130). We're still planning for a ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner, but no dancing.

We hope to have a more traditional reception in a year or two.

We were fortunate to be planning a small wedding of 60 total people from the beginning. And our venue is quite large.
But if they drop us below 50 for gatherings, the only people we can cut are the plus ones for single folks. Makes it stressful and challenging a as the cases continue to climb.
We’re still planning as normal at this point, but anything can happen between now and November. 😳

My FH was so stressed about the thought of delaying or rescheduling the big day because of all this. A HUGE majority of our wedding guests are all out of state. So he was 100% stressed. I just looked at him and said "babe, what if we don't have a big turn out but we get like 20-30 couples who are for sure coming. Are you good with still doing it?" Instantly his body relaxed and he said "Yes! I am so happy you said that because I know it sounds selfish, but knowing we already have 15 couples who have bought flights and booked their places I don't want to cancel or do a virtual wedding."
So that's our plan. I know it might REALLY suck because my MOH may not make it due to her job restrictions but we will push through and continue on to become one.

Whatever y'all decide to do I truly hope that you and the FH make it the most amazing and spectacular day ever!
