Has anyone ever heard of having a big cookout for the dinner of your wedding reception?? I am marrying into a mexican family. We love a variety of mexican and American foods. We have such a wide variety of food choices on both sides and completly stuck of what to do. Our wedding is not til june 2018. But looking now. Anyone please help. We will be hiring people to cook, our families n friends will not be doing any part of this. We are also looking into food trucks. Just would like to know if anyone knows of anyone whom has done any of these. Or knows caterers or people that can help do this. We are getting married somewhere around the milwaukee area.

Nobody is rude here. I can't drink right now, I'm at work. However, there are 4 cases of beer sitting next to me that one of the guys brought in for me. I love when we get things off of jobs and the guys share! lol.

OP, no one was being rude when asking what "regular" food is. C'mon now.

There's nothing to be defensive about, unless you feel referring to American food as "regular food" gives you a bit of guilt in your own mind.

OP I think hiring a catering company to do cook out style food and a few Mexican food options is your best bet. Sorry people jumped the gun and may have seemed rude to you, lots of folks out there self-cater (some who post on here and many, many more beyond that) and it's generally not regarded as a good idea hence the raised hackles!

My little sister is doing the BBQ for her wedding on my grandmother's land. She is hiring a caterer though.

We are also looking into food trucks. Just wanted ideas. But yes a drink sounds wonderful. Maybe baileys or rum chatta in coffee. Not to early for that

Maybe look into some sort of Texmex type of food? Americanized Mexican food?

I think the word your looking for is "traditional" wedding food. Anyway I think you would be hard pressed to find a caterer that could do both authentic Mexican food and more traditional food well. And hiring two different caterers could get expensive. I think having a Mexican food truck come later on in addition to having a caterer sounds like a great idea.

If you hire someone to cater , it sounds perfectly fine to me

I've said this dozens of times, but a number of my family members are asthmatic. They can't be around active fire/smoke/grilles. As long as they'd know that upfront, and could politely decline the invitation, they'd be fine with it. There was a surprise bonfire, at one wedding we attended, and a couple of carfuls of guests had to leave, when it was lit.

I'm glad you're not self catering, but don't start with the "rude" bullshit. Also, more people need to read comments before they post their own because that's how we get into this back and forth of "but I said I wasn't self catering you meanies!!!!!"

I'd reconsider food trucks unless you're getting about 10 at a time. Think of the long lines. Stations with various food samplings is a better idea logistically. As a professional caterer, I've done both for crowds of 1200plus at a university. Stations were much less of a nightmare.
