Hi everyone,

I'm struggling with deciding between having ceremony and reception at a hotel vs at a private venue (mansion or similar, some of you already suggested some stunning venues in my other thread!). I fear that with a hotel wedding it might be difficult to personalize the event, like having our preferred caterer, cake bakery, entertainment etc. or that options are limited, especially if we decide on an Island wedding such as Cyprus (we are from Europe but consider both, EU and US for the wedding).

Also with a hotel/resort wedding I'm a bit worried about the noise level...I really don't want 20 screaming kids at the pool interfere with the ceremony, for example.

On the other hand, a hotel wedding would be more convenient for our guests (as it will be a destination wedding, no matter where we go) and if something is amiss we can always count on the hotel staff...

Does anyone of you have experience with hotel/resort weddings or want to share your thoughts ?

We passed on doing the wedding at a really beautiful oceanfront resort in the outer banks for precisely the reason you mentioned. When we did the tour, it was precisely the time of year we would have been having our wedding... and the place was seriously packed with people and screaming kids, the oceanfront hotel room balconies were a stones throw away... I didnt want a bunch of gawkers at my wedding and random children screaming in the pool next door during my reception.

We ended up going with a country club on the soundside. I never would have pegged myself as one to get married on a golf course, but the waterfront ceremony space is gorgeous, the clubhouse and outdoor veranda was a perfect reception space, and everything is spread out so you wont have random tourists gawking at the whole affair. They are just inclusive enough to remove some of the headache while still not being too limiting.

There are vacation rental homes and condos on the grounds of the golf course for folks who choose to go that route as well, but again - its a golf course, so things are spread out. There are 2 lovely hotels within 5 minutes, and a larger selection about 15-20 minutes away. It was honestly perfect.
