Dedicated December 2020

Concerned..

Future Mrs. Lowder, on April 9, 2020 at 9:33 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Up until last night I wasn’t particularly worried about the Covid 19 closures affecting our wedding (set for Dec. 19). Now after doing some research the county we live in isn’t offering marriage licenses until further notice. The county our venue is in though is doing a case by case basis. Do I have any reason to be concerned about it so far in advance?

I wouldn't be at all concerned about a December wedding right now. They can't stop issuing marriage licenses for an entire 8 months.

Yeah I agree with PP. Right now our courts are closed for non-essential cases; but still issuing licenses. They are closed for non-essential cases for 60 days, I think there plan is to reopen in mid-May.

I'm a November 2020 wedding we are not worrying or changing plans until July when we will reevaluate.

I’m December too and not worried about it. Where I am, marriage licenses are only valid for 90 days anyways so I’d have to wait. I’m confident that they will start issuing them again, but I know that as soon as it opens and it’s within 90 days of our date I will go get one. I’m not going to wait until the last minute in the off chance that they close again closer to the wedding.

At least where I live, your marriage license can be issued anywhere in the state as long as you get married in the state, so you could definitely just try a different county. Also, not to freak you out (things SHOULD be fine by December), but if you're struggling to get a marriage license, there will probably be other reasons you can't get married as planned.

    Hi Future Mrs. Lowder,

It's okay to be nervous or worried at times. We're all hoping that COVID-19 will be under control well before December, of course. Unfortunately, no one knows for sure.

You are not alone in your concern. Here are two recent discussions with other December brides:

    - Wedding is December 2020. Should we consider cancelling?

    - December 2020 Brides

Also, WW has created resources that may be helpful as you navigate the planning process: Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide.

    Good luck! Smiley heart
