Complicated engagement ring...what kind of wedding band?

Apri, on January 21, 2015 at 5:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I just got engaged and my fiance got me a beautiful halo engagement ring with a cathedral style setting with gold inlay and stones on both sides. My question is what do I do about a wedding band? It didn't come with one in a set and a band with cover the side so I am wondering if I should just go without one? I have attached pictures.

I honestly wouldn't get one. Your ring is gorgeous.

Mine is similar to yours. Honestly though, how often do you look at the side? The outer side would be exposed. I can't imagine not getting a wedding band so if you are the same as mine, just get a solid thin band. Or you could not get a band.

Don't get one...it would block the detail on the sides. I probably wont be getting one either, but I think I will get a cheap Pandora one to use for the ceremony and probably end up wearing it on my right hand after the wedding.

I have a 3 stone vintage band with lots of detail. i had the same problem. i went in and tried some on and decided that i chose my engagement ring because it's beautiful and detailed. so i decided that would be how i would choose my band. they may not slide in next to each other or have the same exact design, but they go together because they are both beautiful and ornate designs. just go try some on! you won't know until you see them next to your ring.

I would get a band (maybe custom?) that wraps around the side. Mine is like yours in that there are diamonds on the side. They're on both sides, so I don't mind "covering them up" with my wedding band. The wedding band is what's meaningful to me!

If you did a band at all, which I am not sure I would do if I were you, I would have a custom made shadow band made. (cost roughly $600 to $1000). It is just a thin band that hugs the engagement ring. Or...I would get a separate wedding to wear when possibly not wearing the engagement ring. My SIL is a nurse, and does not wear her engagement ring quite often due to having to put on gloves. She does wear the wedding band to work. If you have ever thought about not soldering the ring, and wearing them at separate times...you could have a lot of options.

There was a band somebody else hard on here a couple weeks back. It had a curve band appearance with a row of diamond. Then had a solid white gold band in the same ring directly under the curved band. I am going to do a little digging and see if I can find it. That band could be really close to what you would be looking for.

I would not get one. A band will block out some of the light and will cause the diamond not to sparkle as brilliantly.

I wear my band on my middle finger because of the oddly-shaped ring I have.

My e-ring has a similar side detail as yours and my band is flat so that my e-ring detail is higher than the band and still shows. I say get a flat wedding band!

I agree with trying some on and if absolutely nothing works then go the custom route. My FH would flip if I didn't wear a wedding band (he's kinda fixated on people wearing their rings in the right order and everything). Plus would you really want to give up the band? Good luck and that ring is GORGEOUS

My ring has that sort of wavy band with diamonds as well. It did not come with a wedding band, so my FH picked out a band with the same size/style diamonds, but a straight band. So it doesn't exactly lock into the engagement ring or fit flush up against it, but I think it still looks nice. The same thing would look beautiful with your ring as well.

It really is surprising to me how few people are considering wedding bands though. An engagement is just a promise to marry that person. A wedding band is promise that you will be married to that person forever. That is what is more important to me.

You could wear your wedding ring (or e-ring) on your right ring finger. My mom has a traditional engagement ring but a crazy unique wedding band that takes up the entire part of her ring finger up to her knuckle on her right hand. It's like 3 diamond V-'s and a thick gold band. I'd show a pic if I wasn't on my phone! Dang WW mobile. Any way haha she wears the wedding band on her right hand and her engagement ring on her left. You could always do that! I would want the wedding band and not just an engagement ring. You did get married after all!

You really don't need a band, but if you really want one, I suggest getting a custom one because I don't think any other band will sit flush with your ring due to the way your band is made. If you don't mind your ring not being flush with the band, you can just get a diamond band.
