Collecting addresses...TIPS?

Tricia Luv's Kris, on November 26, 2009 at 8:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hey ladies,

Does anyone have any tips for collecting addresses? I'm wondering if it's ok to send out a mass email asking for them or if I should make it more personal. I don't really know what the deal is but I really want to send out my "save the dates" asap.

I used every method available! I emailed, borrowed address books from family, texted, called & even Facebook messaged some friends. I dont think it has to be anything formal just to get an address. Good luck!

Facebook, email, phone calls, you name it, do it to get your addresses, I was going to leave each set of parents in chagre for getting addresses for their side, then get all our friends and what not myself.

I have emailed and texted people to send me their mailing address. I don't think it has to be anything formal. I assume most of your folks already know you're engaged?

I actually emailed family members who have held large family gatherings like bridal showers or baby showers or even 1st birthday parties. I got 2 responses out of the 15 or 20 i sent out but those 2 were pretty efficient in helping me build my OWN list. And I used Excel and put everything in a nice little organized spreadsheet (great advice from David Tutera from My Fair Wedding.. really helps with thank you cards too for after the wedding). OH and p.s. make sure when you've compiled the complete list, (If you're doing it on the computer) go into your email and EMAIL IT TO YOURSELF so that you have a copy..even if your PC crashes or something evil happens to the spreadsheet (sometimes excel just sucks) you can always go into your email and download it again. You may have lost some info but the basics will still be there!

Aimeedarling excellent advice. i came home from running of the brides last month to discover that someone had broken into my house and my laptop had been stolen. all of my planning info was GONE. luckily i had emailed the guest list to FH so i was at least able to recover a fairly recent version of it. but i have to redo my invitations and everything. it just really sucks. and on top of it i didn't find a dress that day lol!

I had sent individual messages to those who were on my facebook list. Also, I kept a pen and notepad in my purse

and when I ran into people I would ask.

I said that I was updating my phone book because I wanted to send out Christmas cards and birthday cards this year. Most people responded but others I had to text.

Is there anyone who you're close to that might be willing to help out? I don't live in the same state as my brother, but I wanted to do something to help him & his fiance out, so I offered to collect all the addresses from our side of the family. He emailed me a list of the people's names, and I put together a detailed address list and sent back to him. It was just a little way that I could help out, even though I didn't live close enough to do most things.

My Mom and Mother n law had most of the addresses. But for friends I just e-mailed. And I would also suggest using an excel spreasheet. I had one for who RSVPed yes/no. One for gifts I received from who. And another I used to cross off who I sent my thank yous too. Now I'm using them for Christmas cards.

I got the majority of my addresses from my mom and fmil. For friends I sent them messages on facebook or via email to get their addresses. I use the knot to create my guest list. It comes in handy, it can generate an excel spreadsheet for me with all the information I had inputted for each individual guest whenever I want. It even generates guest in terms of labels...for instance grooms guests or grooms family guests, brides guests, engagement party guests, bridal shower guests, etc..

Luckily my mom has every address in the world pretty much! All we have to work on is his side and our friends which won't be too hard. I plan on using email, calls, texts, etc to get the ones we don't have.

Believe it or not I found 40% of my addresses on my own just yesterday. I am a http://www.whitepages.com junkie and all you have to know is the last name and the city and state and Voila there is your address on most people. If you are pretty sure they haven't moved then most of the ones you find are accurate. I have also used this site to help out at work and I have been 7/8 of trying to get in touch with someone I had no other contact info for. So good luck.

Oh, don't worry about ettiquette at this point. Use whatever venue you have available to get addresses. I've used Facebook messaging, text messaging... even siblings of invitees. No one really cares about how you invite them, they'll be happy they're invited!!

I got most of mine from my mom because my sister got married two years ago and she still had some of the addresses for family there. But for my FH's family it is more difficult. I have his moms said but his dads side we are having a difficutly in getting a response. But I figured I will probably facebook his one cousin and see if she can help me. My really I don't think you need to be formal about anything. You are just wanting to get addresses.

Invest in a rol-o-dex/address book and save them all. computers can crash, but pen and paper cant!
