Cocktail reception wording

LoveBubbles, on May 22, 2015 at 11:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hello ladies, I need your opinions.

I am working on the wording for our wedding invitations and I am stuck on the party line (the all the way bottom of the invitation where the reception information is printed). We are having a cocktail style reception and I am torn on what to write. Do any of the following options sound good? Do they get enough information across? too much? suggestions?

Cocktail reception to follow

Hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and dancing to follow

Libations, lite fare, and liveliness to follow

Cocktail style affair (or celebration) to follow

Cocktails and revelry to follow

Your thoughts ladies?

I agree with Wendy that Cocktail reception to follow works, especially if you are actually serving cocktails. I was originally thinking of doing a cocktail/finger foods reception but with just beer and wine so I was thinking of wording like " Hors d'oeuvres reception to follow" in case people showed up looking for their cocktails lol!

Hor's oeuvres, cocktails and dancing. Keep it simple and clear.

Thank for your input. In my social group they all are very aware that there will be an open bar with plenty of options. I am more concerned with getting the food message across. I also was toying the idea of interjecting some whimsy, hence the wording of some of the options.

If you want whimsy, "Libations, lite fare, and liveliness to follow" sounds good. Or you could do "merry making" instead of liveliness.

I second celia and simple, they are clearer to me that it's not a sit down meal.

I put in in simple English: Please join us for an end of summer cocktail party. My invitations mention the party first then "after all these years we are getting married." (14 exactly) The focus will be on the party because we don't want gifts (or cash or anything... We just want friends and family to celebrate with us).
