Cocktail Napkins-How Many?

Spidel8, on February 18, 2016 at 2:30 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I got an email from Wedding Paper Divas with a 40% off coupon code for personalized cocktail napkins and coasters. This wasn't something I was even considering, but after looking at them they're so stinkin' cute! Obviously this isn't something we need for our reception, but I'm curious how much it would cost to have the cocktail napkins. Is there a rule of thumb for how many per guest? I'm having about 80 people. Oh, and do they get served with the cake?

I would say... a lot. But I personally use a lot of napkins. People may grab one with each drink. If you have your heart set on it, do it, but I personally think this will get expensive fast and is an unnecessary expense. Your names will be proudly displayed while sopping up spilled drinks and wiping cake out of old Uncle Bill's moustache.

I got that email and I looked before passing. Yes, they were super cute, but my caterer is providing cocktail napkins already. They are handed out with every drink and then you'll need some extras for spills, etc. Basically, that's a lot of napkins. I just can''t justify that cost when the napkins are meant to be used and thrown away. A few people might notice that I spent $300 on super cute napkins, but most won't notice or care. And everyone will still throw them away.

    I got 200 for 70 guests.

I heard they don't get used a lot of the times, but they were cute and I was on a shopping spree.

You can have them at the bar or have them served with the cake perhaps. If you go with having them at the bar, you will need ALOT more than if you have them served with cake. I wanted to have custom napkins as well, but with a guest list approaching 200, we decided to have them served with the cake rather than the bar Smiley smile I think I ended up ordering 250 just to be on the safe side. And remember to grab a few and put them aside when they come in if you want to save any for yourself...don't count on remembering to do it the day of the wedding!

Ah, yes. When you think about what it's going to be used for-wiping your face and throwing it in the trash- it doesn't seem worth it to spend $100+. You're absolutely right @MayBride most people probably won't notice. Thank you ladies for keeping me in check. It's so easy to get swept up in all these tiny expensive details.

I invited 84 people ordered 400 cocktail napkins. I got them on sale which is only reason I got them. I didn't need them place I will be having wedding at will have their own. I wanted some that went with the colors and thought they were nice. I think that would be enough, but the place has more if they run out.

The local party city carries wedding napkins. They're not customized but someone from work used them and they were cute. If you still want them, go spend $10 at a party store Smiley smile

When I used to cater...we would do like 3X the number of guests...if there was cocktail service or appetizer service...then just covered the rest with plain white (decent) or solid colored napkins that went with the theme/ linens/ tables...however you want to put it. To be honest nobody cares about the cute napkins. If you like them and are doing like a cake/ cake table I would order the smallest number you can and just display them on your cake table. Then again it is your day so whatever makes you happy and wont' break the bank- go for it!

I don't remember how many we got, but had plenty left over to use at home afterward.

I would do enough for a couple per guest then just have the rest plain. Enough to be cute.

Not helpful at all, but my parents had a bunch left over after their wedding in 1984. My grandma saved them and we used them for their 25th anniversary party!

I would get the lowest amount possible and save them for anniversaries. 1st year cake with parents? I wouldn't care to have them the day of.
