Clink Clink - Cut the Crap!

Anyone else hate the 'clinking of the glasses' deal? I have despised it since I was a little kid. Call me a party pooper, but I find it annoying. The poor bride and groom have been running all day and now when they finally get to sit down and enjoy a meal they paid good money for someone starts...

Anyone else hate the 'clinking of the glasses' deal? I have despised it since I was a little kid. Call me a party pooper, but I find it annoying. The poor bride and groom have been running all day and now when they finally get to sit down and enjoy a meal they paid good money for someone starts banging on their glass. Stand up, sit down, stand up....you get the idea. Plus if you have a child like mine - they get this crazed look in their eye and bang to break.

HOW DO I AVOID THIS???

I'm going based off of the many weddings I have attended. It does depend on the crowd of course. The last one I went to it was over the top. I just really don't want to participate in this in any way if possible. Not comfortable with it in the least. I want my guests to have a good time...just not at the expense of my comfort? I guess I'm reaching out to the WW community to see if there is a decent way to request it not be done instead of being downright rude when conveying my wishes?

Haha stink eye the place up! It's not like we won't kiss AT ALL, but I would rather do it on my own accord. We've already discussed with some and the ONE (aunt who has always known better than me how to live my life of course) who said she was going to do it anyway got a little lippy. Informed her she will be escorted out. She clapped back with "You'll need security guards then" Oh honey, jokes on you! They're required by the venue! LOL

If it makes you feel better, I haven’t seen this at a wedding since I was like 12. Smiley smile

To avoid this we're doing a kissing menu!

It makes the guests do something else instead of clinking glasses (although we did put an option for clinking your glass). We're printing it out and framing it and will put it on all of the tables.

I would imagine if you want to completely avoid kissing in front of family and friends, you could do something similar that involves no kissing though! Would just require a bit of creativity!

I was at a wedding were one uncle was super obnoxious with this. It stopped being cute for EVERYONE real fast. His wife took his utensils and he just grabbed others.

I might play dumb with it, to be honest. I've only seen it at the one wedding so I hadn't realized it was a thing before then.

    Same.

What happens? People just clink their glasses all night?

We ordered little bells for them to ring. I think if you don't give them something, they will clink glasses.

They clink and the couple kisses. Few minutes later someone clinks again, couple kisses. Depending on the group it can be a little or a lot.

Not necessarily! i have a very large and southern family, and they all go crazy during the glass clinking, especially the more they drink. i think it just depends on the guests

Following for alternative ideas. my family goes nuts for the stupid glass clink, specifically my mom! i used to always grab her utensils when she started drinking too much or else she’d clink like every 10 minutes 🙄 i can’t stand the idea, even if around here it’s only to get the couple to kiss, we wouldnt have to stand. we still don’t want to do it lmao

Like seriously will irk me so much that it will ruin my day. I think I am going to just make an announcement with the security guards carrying my big, happy rear end on their shoulders. "These are my peeps people...they take care of my light work and have a list naming potential trouble makers! Watch yourself!" Maybe throw a finger snap and neck swerve in...time will tell. OR we could have a sign... Rethink. Don't clink. (FYI totally being sarcastic - kind of?)

😂😂😂😂 love this. i’m not very good with wedding etiquette so while i’m sure a lot of people on here would say no to posting a sign or making an announcement, i see no problem with it. or maybe saying that only the bridal party or parents of the bride and groom can do a clink, and they’re only limited to like 1 each or something? that way everyone is satisfied and it doesn’t get out of hand.

my family was constantly clinking at my brother and SIL’s wedding a few years ago and he just ignored them every time until they finally got the hint

I have never heard of this clinking glasses thing, needless to say it did not happen at our wedding.
