Clear Nail Polish on Shoe Bling to Stop the Bling From Grabbing onto Lace dresses - Anyone?

Carole M (a.k.a "old tart"), on June 26, 2012 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Has anyone heard of this? WHen we went to the seamstress, she recommended Cate put a clear coat of nail polish on the bling on her shoes. Now, her shoes were not cheap. They are Badgley Mishkas so she is a tad reluctant to do anything.

Has anyone done this or heard of it before? How did it turn out? Did it work?

I do this all the time (on my inexpensive/expensive shoes) I generally put about 2 or 3 coats. This keeps the stones from snagging your clothes.

When she puts it on, she has to take her time to make sure it's on the stones only.

I've never heard of that - does it coat/sharpen the soft edges?

I've never heard of this either, and I'm skeptical as well. If she tries it, report back! I'd love to hear if it actually works. I just don't get how nail polish will stop it from snagging. It seems to me that it would be the prongs holding the rhinestones that would snag, and it would take an awful lot of nail polish to build up enough so there was no gap between the stones and the prongs. But maybe that's not how it works, what do I know?!

Can she/you try on something cheaper first and see how it works?

Kristen that's how I was imagining it would work too - my fear is it would make the rhinestones all cloudy and the decrease the sparkle factor or drip and soak into the satin (assuming they're satin.)

@Carole, maybe Cate can get a pair of inexpensive shoe clips with rhinestones to test. Then her nice wedding shoes aren't ruined if it doesn't work. Like these are only $10 and seem to have a similar setting as the Badgleys (ie prong setting): http://www.etsy.com/listing/97773342/

MyloveandhisMrs.....Do you have any idea how this works?

Ladies, my concern is also that it would make the bling cloudy too. I just can't see how it works. I will dig through my closet and see if I can find some bling shoes as testers.

Kris....Yes, they are satin and yes, they have prongs

Kristen....Thanks for the links. I will find some oldie but goodies in my closet.

I will def report back to everyone.

    Thank you!

I would like to know if this worked too! I have a rhinestone edged veil that likes to snag the tulle on the veil itself, or the skirt of the dress. - Also, if you did try this, did the nail polish turn yellow several months later?

My wedding is in June, I have a lot of material on my dress and naturally I wanted some bling on my shoes to match the dress. I picked out these beautiful shoes and I'm worried that my dress is going to get torn or get runs in it because of the gems. We're taking ballroom dance classes and at my last dress fitting my dance instructor told me to try out some moves to make sure the hem of the dress and everything was copasetic. Unfortunately not as Cinderella as I would have liked. The rhinestones got caught with every motion and step. I also purchased Badgley Mishka shoes, it may be a brand thing but I was thinking clear nail polish as well for preventative measures. The last thing any bride wants is to faceplant walking down the aisle because her dress gets caught in her shoe. I will post some before and after pictures letting everyone know how this works out otherwise I was thinking about purchasing a separate shoe all together. Fingers crossed ladies Smiley laugh

Anybody have anything to report back or any luck with the clear polish? I also bought Badgley Mischka shoes and they are catching on the eye lash lace on my dress and I'm not sure if I should get a backup pair or try this? I'm not sure. Please help! lol
