If you take it to a jeweler they will usually tighten the stone for you at the same time. I do mine every 6 months.

We have my rings professionally cleaned, polished and have the prongs checked every 6 months or so. We clean them at home every other week-ish or whenever we remember to do it.

My H does exactly what the article suggests. Easy peasy!

I have mine professionally cleaned a few times a year/buffed out ( my ring is platinum and delicate). But I also clean it at home in between the Jeweler.

I take mine to get cleaned and looked at every 6 months since it's part of the warranty. I get nervous to self clean because I used to work in a jewelry store and have seen what some self cleaners can do with jewelry.

Also to the above comment, you're not really supposed to clean it THAT often. I didn't read the above article but most cleaners can be harmful to the metal over time and basically, the more you clean it the less clean it can look every time. As long as you take your ring off to shower, do dishes, and clean the house, you should really only need to clean it every 6 months if that.

I send my ring in every 6 months to get professionally cleaned and dipped by the business it came from but I also clean it gently with a soft bristle tooth brush and gentle soap every so often

I get mine polished & rhodium dipped once or twice a year depending on what I feel like. I clean it at home with a jewelry solution every couple weeks. I want to get a home ultrasonic but don’t have space right now.

To the above comment- Home cleaners will wear off the rhodium from white gold, but platinum is naturally white so it isn’t a concern in her case. And the only reason to not get your ring polished regularly is because it takes off a tiny layer of metal each time, and eventually will require your shank to be thin and need to be rebuilt. There’s no such thing as it looking older from cleaning unless you aren’t wearing a precious metal & have a sterling silver setting. Platinum is actually more durable than gold and can be polished with more frequency.

I have a 6 month ring cleaning (they check for loose diamonds as well) and my jeweler also gave me a at home cleaning solution for in between those 6 months.

My warrantee also requires cleaning every six months but if I feel that’s not clean enough I stop by the store randomly and they take care of it for me. I’m too scared to use anything at home.

Every six months because of the warranty, but if I’m in the area I’ll pop in and ask. The women that sold my FH the ring actually always remembers us and our wedding day because we picked the same day as her birthday (so weird right? She asked us our date when picking wedding rings and freaked out)

Real talk, that looks like something Alton brown would offer up as a sabotage on Cutthroat Kitchen. Lol!

    That looks super thorough though.

Every six months at the jeweler as part of the warranty. At home about once a month or whenever I remember to.

I take mine in every six months, because I have a very good deal if a diamond were to fall out they would replace it for free. But I did get my own ring cleaner at a wedding show that I do think cleans my ring better when it comes to grime.

My ring is required to be taken to the store once every 6 months. I'm not sure about how to clean it at home so I'm going to ask about it when I take it for my first 6 month cleaning.

I’ve done both. I bring it to the jeweler who made it twice a year and he cleans it and checks the prongs. Then about every two weeks I clean it at home per his instructions. I take a bottle of ammonia and squirt three long shots of dish detergent into the bottle. Then I soak the ring in that mixture about five minutes and then scrub the ring with a soft toothbrush and rinse under the hottest water I can stand. Air dry. However my ring is a platinum solitaire diamond. Be careful of that mixture for non platinum settings or stones other than diamond.

That’s not what my jeweler said. He said if you don’t clean more often than coming to him, it will get dingy looking and be harder for him to clean.

Every one is different. I worked for a jeweler for 5 years and saw plenty of self cleaned rings come in looking oxidized or dull from over-cleaning. If that's what your jeweler recommenced for your ring then that's great for you but certain cleaning products and methods do not work for every metal and stone.

Correct. My ring is a diamond and platinum solitaire. Don’t follow what I do if you have gold or other stones.
