Cinderella Table Skirting? Anyone used it or know how to do it?

Midwest May, on June 3, 2015 at 2:47 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

I know they have "kits" for it but it doesn't look that hard (?). Just thought I'd ask before I spend the $50 on a how-to video.

I was in to those--until I priced the brooches that are attached to the skirt and added those up for a DIY!

There are other versions that feature tulle-over-table-cloths with tiny lights underneath--that are equally as pretty and affordable as a DIY project.

It looks like tulle attached to a plain white tablecloth with brooches. I agree the cost of those brooches is going to add up quick. If you really want it I would start playing around until you came up with something that you liked. I had never seen that before. It is very pretty.

Okay this haunted me until I figured it out LOL. I called all my crafty friends and this is what we came up with. You will need a plain floor length tablecloth that goes to the floor and you will have to reinforce it to the table. We taped it to the table because the weight of the other material and the brooches pulled it off. Then you take loose material 54 inch wide to 60 inch wide and drape it. You will need quite a bite of material. We did a small table like a sweetheart table and rectangle tables were so much easier to do than round. Round table looked crappy. You take the material we used a very nice grade of tulle (not the nylon fishnet looking stuff) and you measure out where you want your first brooch to go and then you take the tulle and just pull it to the length you want. So in other words you don't start at the end of the material you go into it and ho far depends on how you want your drapes to look. Once you do this then you attach the brooch to the material and then attach it to the tablecloth. You do this all the way around the table. If you want the second layer then you do the same thing in between the first set of drapes with a separate piece of material. My suggestion is to do it with light weight material like tulle, organza, or even lace would be pretty. Heavy material will not be held by the brooches. If you want the beaded effect that some of the pictures on pinterest have. You need to buy or make beaded garland and just drape it from brooch to brooch as you wish. My best guess on yards of material if you do 2 rows your going to need probably around 40 yards of material. Draping takes a lot of material and isn't cheap plus the cost of brooches. The bigger the table the more material and brooches it will take. I would seriously practice doing this before your wedding day just to make sure you have it all down pat before your wedding. I am thinking about doing this for my sweetheart table now that I have seen it. I will not use brooches. My wedding is Christmas themed and I am using a lot of silk poinsettias so I popped a couple of heads off and hot glued pins on the back of them and I am going to use a nice tulle. With using my 40% coupons at Hobby Lobby to buy 2 bolts of nice tulle I will be looking $31.36 in tulle (20 yard bolts so 40 yards total). That isn't bad. If you use organza ( which is used in most of the pictures on google) or lace the price is going to be much more. Practice, Practice, Practice. If you spend 50 dollars for the tutorial that is going to be on top of all your cost for material and brooches. Oh yeah brooches have to be no smaller than 4 inches in diameter. So they are pretty big brooches to hold the weight of material and to attach to tablecloth. The small brooches will not work. Good Luck!!!!!

Just one more little tidbit of advice. Think about your theme for your wedding and be creative to come up with something cheaper than brooches to hold the draping material. I was thinking about buying chipboard snowflakes and glittering them to hold the drapes. Nautical themes could used seashell. If you like the brooch effect buy loose rhinestones and cluster them together with hot glue. Uses a circle cut from a Styrofoam plate to glue them on to and once the glue is set pop the Styrofoam circle off and glue a pin on the back. Get creative to cut down on your cost. Those brooches are not cheap. Okay I will leave you alone now lol. Good Luck!!!!!

I was on efavormart.com ordering stuff for my wedding. They have 54 inch width organza bolts that are 40 yards for $43.99 each but they are having a 45% of everything sale so it makes it like $24.19 a bolt. Regular shipping is only like $6.00 if you order $100 or more shipping is free. Just wanted to let you know. They have the 45% off sale quite often.

Maggie, thank you so much!! I was planning on using either organza or chiffon. Any tips on how to keep the brooches at the right heights? I guess a yardstick will have to do. that's the one thing I've noticed on the pics that don't look so good is that they didn't pay attention to being consistent in how much material they gathered or that they aligned the brooches. I found on Etsy a 10 piece lot of rhinestone brooches at 2.60 a piece. They look nice. You can order these skirts as kits but they are like $300. I was sure there was someone out there like you who could figure it out. All our other DIY projects are going so well that I may be brave and take this on. Thanks again for your help.

I actually was talking to my friend that lives an hour and half away and she had the same problem with keeping them even. So I suggested that she tie a piece of string or ribbon to the brooch she already attached and run it to the next so that way she could see visually when they were even. It worked LOL!!!!!! Yeah your going to have to measure how far apart you want them and practice with it. The draping will take a lot of material so don't be surprised if you have to order more. On the brooches make sure they are BIG at least 4 inches in diameter. They have to be BIG to hold the weight of the material and to have room to attach to the tablecloth. The brooches in the pictures look to be 5 to 6 inches in diameter. Good Luck!!!! I would love to see pictures once you nail it all down LOL.
