My FH loves to smoke international cigars . So I wanted to surprise him with a cigar bar at the wedding . I just started looking into this and I'm unaware of the cost and etc involved. DIY or hire a professional to roll on-site ?Has anyone had one ? If so ,how was the experience ? Disclaimer: Before...

Disclaimer: Before anyone ask , yes I asked my venue it's allowed as long as it's near the outdoor patio .

I second the "make sure it's outside" idea ... If it was inside or even just "near the outdoor patio" I wouldn't be able to stay because I doubt I'd even make it through dinner before I had an asthma attack.

But not everybody is as severe as me ... It took me a month to get back to normal after my last attack was triggered by being stuck in a crowd behind a smoker. Sighhh...

I hired a cigar roller for my first wedding. It was a huge hit. She took care of everything all I had to do was pay her. It was fun and unique at the time.

Hi! We are doing this at our reception. They quoted us $1500 (our venue actually has a preferred vendor, we didn't just look into random cigar rolling super early haha). And we are located in Connecticut as reference, and the cigar bar will be there all evening.

We are having a cigar bar...we are going to DIY. We will have 6 different types of cigars to choose from, cutters and matches. They will all be in mason jars.

I will say that if you do this PLEASE make sure your guests know ahead of time. Cigars and smoke in general (though for many cigars are worse than cigarettes) aren't something many people can comfortably or even safely be around. If I came to a wedding where people were smoking cigars my allergy to it is so intense that even if all I did was walk through/past the people smoking in trying to leave I could end up in the hospital. If this was something I wasn't warned of ahead of time, honestly I would be very upset that it wasn't mentioned and we would go straight from your wedding to the ER. This is true for many people with asthma, migraine headaches, and many other conditions. Some people also just don't like to be around smoke and/or don't like the health risks of being around it. Make it clear on your website and maybe even mention it on the invites. That way at least those with issues with smoke can choose to decline. If you are trying to keep it from your FH I understand that just mention that on the website as well and ask people not to tell him. Since this is something that, unlike say a food allergy where they could just avoid the food if they didn't know it was going to be served, not knowing ahead of time could really be a problem for someone.

This can be very low cost or expensive. Getting someone to hAnd roll will likely require a minimum of how many cigars you have to pay for & how many hours. The quote we got was around $1500. On the other hand a printed "cigar bar" in a frame next to a box of cigars add a couple lighters and cutters, should be less than $200. Either way it'll be a hit

We're just making a display out of the cigars. They will also be served after dessert.

I have never been to a wedding that had a cigar bar but as long as I could absolutely not smell ANYTHING it would be fine. I smell cigar (one of the worst, most disgusting smells on the planet) I'm out of there.

It doesn't trigger my asthma, but it does trigger some kind of chest spasms in DH. It's really weird but it's awful.

@Reggie has an excellent point here. Many people have such terrible sensitivity to smoke that even if people are smoking outside and come back with it on them they can have a reaction.

As an asthmatic, I would probably end up leaving early. Even if it was outside, most people coming in would bring the smoke/ smell with them and it wouldn't be good. Also I was at a friends wedding where the husband was vaping with his friends, he spent most of the wedding at the outdoor patio area, instead of inside with the rest of the guests.

A friend of mine surprised her husband with it, and it was great! They were located outside. I think she paid $500 but I am pretty sure she knew someone, who knew someone.
