Church dilemma

Over the summer we started looking for a church for the ceremony. The first church we looked at is the church that FH's family belongs to. His mother is fairly active in the church. We went to check it out and it is honestly unattractive. The pews are orange and there's not much decor. They also don't have air conditioning and it was really hot in there.

Then we looked at a local church that we really liked. It's a big, pretty church and the members seemed really laid back. They also have air conditioning. The church put us in the book that day and gave us a form to fill out. The secretary said to take our time because she put us in the book. Well when my FH dropped off the form a couple months later the secretary said there was an incident a year ago and it would be an extra 200 dollars for someone to unlock the door and turn the lights on. I think that's kind of ridiculous and decided not to book that church. Continued in comments...

Omg! I can't believe those prices. Thankfully central New York is relatively cheap. It's not so much the price that's the problem. It's more so the fact that she didn't tell us about the extra charge during the initial meeting. It's not that the church is a "prop." It's that I want my guests to be uncomfortable. I'm also not very religious but I want to have a traditional wedding in a church.

If you're not very religious, why do you want to have a traditional wedding in a church?

I have always imagined having a traditional wedding where you get married in a church by a pastor. I don't think you have to be super religious to want that. FH has a somewhat religious family so FH wants to get married in a church too. Also, I wouldn't want an outdoor wedding because with my luck it would rain.

AC is a must in august. You'll melt your make up off in there.

$450 is a good price! I would suck it up and pay it. My brother had his wedding in the middle of July, the church's AC was broken and everyone was so hot, makeup was pouring down our faces...Your guests will thank you and your pictures will look a whole lot better.

In the grand scheme of things, what's $200 extra?

Good point. Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm thinking we are going to suck it up and pay the extra 200 Smiley smile
