Choosing bridesmaids

Brittany, on March 12, 2020 at 8:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
What things do you ladies consider when choosing your bridesmaids?

I don’t have friends, nor close to family and I only have 3 sisters vs his 7-8 groomsmen.
I don’t want just any one in our wedding, if y’all get what I mean.

I chose literally my best friends. I didn’t think of who would be good, etc. i thought of it as who would I couldn’t do it without. I also don’t think both sides need to be equal but I understand some people like the look of symmetry.

I’m with Melle, I thought of who I couldn’t imagine my day without. For me, that was two of my sisters and my two best friends. My FH asked his two best friends but the numbers will be uneven and I couldn’t care less.

I’m having my sister as MOH, FH’s two sisters, and my 3 best girlfriends. Just couldn’t imagine the day without them by my side so had to pick them! I’m not close with my future SILs but I felt like I needed to include them somehow

100%. My best friend is my MOH. Love her to bits and she is always there.

When choosing my ladies I considered how close we are, and if this is someone who can commit their time and financially afford it (that is important. Being in a wedding is a commitment). I was in a similar situation as you. He had 11 groomsmen in mind, and although I have a big family and enough friends to come up with 11, my immediate circle is small and I only wanted my ride or die ladies standing with me. It took a lot of convincing, but he eventually compromised and brought it down to 6. Which was perfect for me. So see if he will compromise (assuming he hasn’t asked everyone yet). Remember you have to keep up with all these people to make sure they have what they need for the wedding day. That can be a lot, especially if you’re planning your own wedding.

If you want it closer to even, do you care about gender? It seems to be more common to have bridesmans and groomswomen now. In fact, my fiance's "best man" is his female best friend since they were in high school. He will be the "maid of honor" in her wedding 3-4 months later too.

I went with my closest friend, may aunt who is like a big sister/ mom and our 11yo daughter. I did have a few other friends I could have asked but wanted people I had a sting background/ relationship with. My FH had multiple guys he wanted but understood where I was coming from and agreed to only pick 2 and his 14yo nephew. Talk to your man ask him to choose the most important guys

I asked my FH youngest sister to be my MOH since we became super close, his oldest sister and his sister in law to be my bridesmaids. My whole family lives in another country and only my parents will make it to the wedding and my only friends are honestly his sisters lol if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have bridesmaids at all

My choice won’t help, but I’ll share just to give you a different look at it. My MOH is my FH’s teenage daughter (she will be 17 at our wedding) and my daughter is my junior bridesmaid. My FH will only have a best man and that is his son (also will be 17, twins!). We wanted to make it about the family we are blending.
    Good luck to you!

I chose my sister for my MOH and my FH 2 sisters for my bridesmaids. He wanted to have 6-7 groomsmen but we settled on his best friend for his BM and my 2 brothers for the groomsmen. I didn't want all these somewhat close friends in the wedding that we never really see or talk to often. Just wanted to keep it mainly family. Luckily he agreed 😂
