Choosing a Theme

Mackenzie, on July 23, 2019 at 2:58 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

What theme and colors did you decide on? We are having such a hard time trying to decide. I know that we want sunflowers but I am not sure if I want to incorporate fall colors, keep it neutral (besides sunflowers), or do colorful bohemian style? Also trying to do a mix of rustic chic with a little bohemian style incorporated.

We aren't doing a theme but our color is dark green with a small amount of gold accents. We originally thought about doing just gold as our color and then added on green as an accent. But after thinking about it we realized gold would be a lot harder as a main decor color because in our experience going to a college with gold as a color, gold is hard to match and often ends up looking yellow instead. So we flipped it and went with dark green as our main color. My ring is an emerald and so green ties that in and we thought it'd look nice at a late fall wedding
I think sunflowers would nice against a neutral color scheme if you wanted to have them as a theme in your decor

We didn't have a theme either but we did mint and blush as our colors. Sunflowers sound cool in a rustic and bohemian blend

We have been so back and forth with this... jewel tones, Tiffany Blue and just confusion Smiley amazing

We have settled on an Italy themed wedding; our colors will likely be grey, sage green and possibly a darker green. This is the only 'scheme/theme' that we are both truly excited about.

    Good luck!

I love sunflowers for fall weddings, they go together so well! We're getting married about 3 weeks before Christmas so we're using greens, reds, blush, white, and metallic accents.

Erin, that sounds amazing. I think I am having such a hard time deciding because I love all colors. Our house is decorated with every color you can think of..and there are just so many beautiful combinations.

Thanks Melle, I am sure it will come together for the day of but I am super excited to start all of the planning and DIY projects!

I haven't ever seen that combination of colors but it sounds beautiful. You will have to share all the amazing pictures with all of us still trying to decide!

Lisa that sounds amazing. I have thought about doing more of an "earthy" approach but my love for sunflowers kinda throws out that idea. I do however love looking at all the amazing pictures of this style.

I love sunflowers and wanted to make sure that I had something that went with them. My daughter who was my MOH wore a dusty blue and we had sunflower and blue hydrangea flowers. I used lots of greenery on my tables with candles and a few sunflowers.

Our theme is rustic glam! There's a ton more glam in our wedding, but the venue is a 1920's building with exposed brick and wood ceilings and floors so it's the rustic part (with some wood decorations also thrown in). Our colors are pink (light and medium), navy, rose gold, gold, and silver. There's going to be a lot of glitter, sparkle, and shine to play into the glam theme! I love anything sparkly so that's how I decided on that.

I love sparkle so much, so I am sure there will be some of that incorporated into our wedding. I am sure the navy, pink with sparkle is going to be breathtaking.

Wow that is beautiful. This was my original plan, I love the way the dusty blue calms the bright color of the sunflower. I was second guessing my decision because I am not sure it feels true to our personality/style. Did you incorporate the dusty blue into other parts of the decoration for ceremony/reception?

I had a very small wedding so I didn’t do much but here are a few things. And I had my kids and their spouses wear shades of blue (except my sister who needed to be different ..lol).

Then I think that having a colorful wedding is more "you" than not. I suggest bohemian or whimsical. We started out with not having a theme either but the more decorations I got, the more i realized without knowing, that I was leaning more towards romantic/looking pieces and ideas. Suddenly everything kind of made sense. Makes it so much easier to decorate.

Jessica thank you! I think what I will do is just pick decor that we both like instead of trying to match a theme. I am sure the romantic look is going to be amazing.

This is what I did! I picked out decor and inspo I loved and then realised after awhile that I unintentionally had a theme. Lol mine is industrial vintage but I didn't go into planning with that as my vision. 🙂

My wedding day is Day of the dead Nov 2nd... both our fathers are passed on, so it means a lot to have it on a day they can (in spirit) join us.
Our main color is red with hints of sugar skull

I thought about what do I want our guests to feel when they leave our wedding and reception?! Romance was the first word that came to mind! We are getting married Aug 31st (Yay!) so I went with romantic, end of summer colors... dusty rose, dusty blue, gold, navy, and some silver. Pinterest was also a big help to see colors placed together for center pieces, lighting, etc!
