Choosing a Photographer

Macy, on May 21, 2019 at 11:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi guys! I have two photographers in mind and I'm having a hard time making a decision. I'm leaning toward a photographer where I love her photos SO much and I love that it's digital photos vs. film photos, but I don't feel like we "connect" and she seems very business, get it done, oriented. She is also not in the area of my wedding. I love her photos so much because she takes so many photos, and gets all those special moments, which, all could be framed!

On the other hand, I really connected with another photographer, however, I only "like" her photos instead of love them. She does film photography and I don't like that style so much. She also does a lot of portrait oriented photos instead of a mix of landscape and portrait that I like and I don't think she gets those little, intimate moments. She is also in the area and she knows lots of different locations, and she's super motivated/interested in capturing our wedding and she's super sweet and easy to talk to.

Have you worked with a photographer where you absolutely love her work, but you don't connect with (like we're not best buddies) and did it turn out okay? I mean I'm not having a wedding to make friends with a photographer, I'm hiring a photographer for their photos, work, and style.

What do you think and what have you experienced? Thanks a bunch for the help!!

I would go with the photographer that you love her work. You'll have your wedding photos forever, and you only get one shot at them.

I agree with PP 100%. I would want amazing photos to look back on as opposed to okay photos.

As long as you don't NOT get along with her, I'd definitely pick the photographer that you love her work! You'll forget her but your pictures will last forever.

Go with the photographer who you connect with. Communication is key... if you communicate what you expect and any ideas, go from there. Working with a person you don't connect with doesn't mean you will get good photos just cause she did good work with someone else. I am a photographer myself and it is really really important to make that connection and understand how to exceed the clients' wishes/expectations. Business is business so don't dismiss the first photographer for that either. Ask both of them how they can make YOUR dream photos come. Ask the second photographer for more of their gallery... some photographers do not show 1000s of photos but their opinion of their best work. Maybe upon seeing more, you'll love the work instead of like.

I agree with the other comments. Go with the one with the photos you love. As long as shes not totally rude or you absolutely don't get along. You will have the photos for a lot longer than the relationship with the photographer, or the memories from your time taking pictures.

Neither one should be your photographer, keep looking. You don’t want to “like” your photos and film is a weird choice that’s highly risky in my opinion. But also, you need someone that makes you comfortable so you look natural.

Not sure if you have decided or not yet but maybe reach out to someone who has worked with the photographer you dont "connect" with via social media or even who has reviewed them on WW! Ask about their experience and try to get a different feel from someone else. Maybe she warms up, maybe she doesnt, but you will be able to get a second more personal opinion
