Children's meals and age

Private User, on August 8, 2014 at 1:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

We have several children attending who are between 9 and 13, do we get them children's meals or hope they will eat the adult version which is mostly seafood (beach wedding). There are also several young children who will have chicken tenders type meal. Thoughts? I am not really close with the children in questions' mommas.

My venue has smaller portions for kids under 12, so that may be an option. i'd ask the parents because i'd rather get them nuggets than waste seafood.

I have an 11 year old step daughter so am having to kind of base this off of her because this really varies by age - she eats like a grown man but her 11 year old male cousin eats like a child still. Younger than her will definitely get the kids' option, anyone 3 or younger, or 11-13, I will ask their parents what they will eat. I don't want to pay for an adult meal they won't finish!

We do smaller portions for kids 4-12. If it is mostly seafood, will the kids eat it?

My 8 year old eats more then I do! He'll eat off the adult menu whenever we go out.

If there aren't too many kids, I would check with parents IF the kids would eat the adult meal being seafood and the quantity.

Don't get me started on this ... we're doing a buffet ... but our venue charges the same amount for anyone over 2 years old ... yes, I said 2 years old.

    Ridiculous.

It's my only complaint with the venue.

Because a 2 and 3 year old eat sooo differently. My caterer will make anything I want, just give him a recipe, couldn't have gotten a better one. Im thinking the little ones will snack on fruit, veggies and dips during cocktail hour and eat off mom's plate. Thankfully only 2 non school age most are upper elem/early middle then we jump up to 24 yrs old as the next youngest.

Well, I'm sorry you aren't close with their moms, but you are going to need to find their number or email address and ask them. I made the executive decision that out nephew will get chicken tenders at age 5. I will probably do the same for our one friend's daughter who is 7. But for our niece that is 11, I texted my FSIL and asked and told her that the niece can make the decision to have chicken tenders or a grown up meal.

Honestly, if I went to a wedding that was mostly seafood (since I don't eat ANY), I would want the chicken tenders!

I personaly would expect a 9-13 year old to at least try to eat the adult meal. Usually the "chicken tenders" type catering ends at age 10. Is there a way to ask the parents what their preference would be? if not, I would just say children's meals are for under ten only an tell them to "take it or leave it" with the adult meal. My SD is 7 and she would be able to deal with shrimp, fish, salad, rice, potatoes type of food no problem.

I know some of the moms, the wives of my FH's friends, but some are his relatives Ive only met once. Ill check with what moms I have numbers for and see what they think about their children's eating preferences especially with seafood, not everyone's favorite.

My venue is going to serve children under 10 yrs their kids menu (chicken nuggets & french fries). I already talked with them about serving my nephew (who will be 15 yrs) the kids meal. He has autism and is such a picky eater, I know he won't eat anything that is going to be served to everyone else. My venue has been so amazing to work with!

I think you can make an executive decision about kids under a certain age get a certain meal if you want (if it is cheaper) otherwise if you have time contacting people might be good. Kids under the age of 12 at our event will be served early (plated meal) of kid foods...older than that will walk through our buffet line.

I am having a buffet with several children from 1-13. My menu has a good variety so my feeling is they eat what I serve or their parents should bring something. Our caterer did not count 3 and under, and half price for 13 and under. I thought that was reasonable.

You'll have to talk to your caterer/vendor. A lot of them offer vendor meals and kids meals at a discounted rate.

Ours did not offer kid's meals so the kid's "meals" were the same as an adult meal in terms of type and price.

A few of my cousin's kids who were 10-11 at our wedding had the chicken finger kids meals. But then they are super picky and would not have touched the plated adult meal. Plus our kids meals were only $10 compared to the $35 adult meal. My 15 year old cousin though had the adult meal.
