Chicken or Fish? Entree poll

S&P, on May 4, 2016 at 4:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 37

We have to choose a menu before we can schedule our tasting (we can change it if we don't like it after the tasting). We get to choose two entrees (plus a vegetarian option, but won't try the vegetarian one). We're pretty set on short ribs, but we don't know what the other option should be. Originally I was thinking chicken, but now I'm wondering if the fish options would be better. Or one of the other ones? Options below- what would you choose?

Fennel-Braised Lamb Shanks with Lamb Demi

Roast Filet of Beef with Chimichurri Sauce

Slow-Roasted Duck with Dried Cherry Jus

Roasted Barramundi with Parmesan Broth

Seared Mahi Mahi with Tomato Nage

Braised Short Ribs with Orange Cardamom Sauce *this is the one we already want

Coriander Chicken with Salsa Verde

Tandoori Rubbed French-Cut Chicken Breast with Red Thai Curry Sauce

Either the mahi with the nage or the chicken with the verde - the thai one sounds too esoteric for people who like chicken.

Um literally all of the above. But that's not helpful for your purposes...

I'm a carnivore, so I'd go with the beef option whichever you end up choosing. For your other option, I think the Coriander chicken sounds delicious. Maybe chicken over fish? I think a lot of people that wouldn't choose beef would probably prefer chicken over mahi mahi, and then anyone that doesn't eat meat is acommodated by veggie option.

    But they all sound delish!

I love seafood, but if you only have two options I would be inclined to offer chicken as a "safe option". I'm in the same boat and since FH (and I) really want a beef option, I finally went with an herb-roasted chicken as our second option. The caterer had a couple of other things that sounded so good, but I think the chicken will be better for picky eaters.

I think I'd go with the fish. Short ribs are on the heavier side of things, and cardamom is a slightly more adventurous flavor so if you have a picky eater, they're not going to be thrilled with Indian/Thai fusion.

    That coriander chicken sounds gooood!!!!!

I'd choose chicken over fish due to it being more appealing to more people.

I would go with the last option.

I would go chicken to avoid seafood allergies. But if that is information you can gather prior to the tasting why not.

    I love duck...but I don't know how universally well-liked it is.

I think the safe choices are Mahi Mahi or Coriander Chicken since Tandoori can be spicy.

I wish I was invited to your wedding because these choices look ahhhhmahhhzing

Personally I don't eat fish, and I don't really eat a lot of red meat, so I'd say chicken. But if you think more people would like fish than do that. People like me could either do the red meat or the vegetarian option.

More people will prefer chicken to fish, so that's the safer option.

I would do the coriander chicken, a lot of people do not like fish so it is a safer option as you said.

As a guest, I'd choose the short rib no matter what the other option was! I'm one of those non-seafood eaters so I would of course say offer chicken as the second option. I think it's safe to assume it would satisfy a wider range of people than the fish. Are you having an array of apps during cocktail hour? Maybe have one of those be a seafood and then you've kind of covered all the bases Smiley smile

Slow-Roasted Duck with Dried Cherry Jus - YUM but this might be too heavy. The seared Mahi Mahi with Tomato Nage and the Tandoori Rubbed French-Cut Chicken Breast with Red Thai Curry Sauce sound great. I love tandoori though ans Mahi is one of my favorite fish.

I'd be ordering the short ribs because BRAISED. It's my favorite.

I hate seafood. To be fair, your beef option sounds amazing and I'd go for that. But unless you know your whole guest list will be happy with fish, id go with a chicken option. Both sound great, the one with salsa verde sounds safer.

Chicken is the better choice because of people with allergies. I would like the mahi mahi though as we don't do a lot of red meat.

I like the Braised Lamb Shanks. Not everyone likes duck and how its usually cooked so rare. If not the lamb than the chicken.

I would do a chicken dish. Honestly, I don't care for short ribs or fish, so I would be sad if those were the choices.

Chicken. Yes, I know, every wedding seems to offer chicken and beef, but they're probably the most appealing/popular, with most of your guests. I've been to 2 weddings, in the last 1.5 years, where they offered a duet of beef & chicken. We had over 10% of our guests request vegetarian. Lamb and veal entrees would go over like a lead balloon, in my family.
