Chicken cordon bleu or beef?

Jayde, on October 23, 2017 at 7:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 29

Having the hardest time deciding on a main dish! My mother and soon to be in law love beef but my fiance and I like the chicken! Who do we make happy?

Can you have both and let each guest decide? (And be sure to also accommodate those with dietary restrictions)

If you do one main dish, it's usually a chicken, but cordon bleu has ham and cheese inside, which may make it problematic for some of your guests. You'd be safer with a picatta or marsala.

Offering two entrees shouldn't cost that much more. I'd probably cut back somewhere else to do that. If you do orders ahead of time, that makes it even more cost effiecient.

It's odd that your venue won't allow two entrees, can you add one and offer both?

It costs $6 more per plate if I offer 2 entrees that is my only problem...having over 300 guests and that price gets up there quick at that rate!

I would do the beef then. You will probably have people who have a gluten allergy or diary. Beef would be the safe way to go.

300 guests?! LAWD! I would cut that guest list and offer 2 entrees.

Could you find a different catering company that won't upcharge you to do two entrees? In the event that's not an option, I would do a different type of chicken so people who don't eat pork and dairy could still have your entree. I think more people would like or be okay with chicken than with beef. There are many more people who don't eat or don't like red meat.

You don't have to cut your guest list. There are other ways to figure this out.

You probably don't need to invite 300 people, but you should definitely offer at least 2 entrees.

Cut the list and offer two entrees, find a new caterer or offer a different chicken entree.

Personally, I would try to find another caterer then. You have 2 years, so no time crunch or anything. Especially with 300 people, you're gonna need some options/variety.

My venue coordinator said NO to cordon bleu for the reasons others have listed. You need more than one option OP and iis there a vegan option?

Your wedding is 2 years away, start saving so you can host the 300 people properly. I cant find any reason why it would be necessary to invite that many people to a wedding.

Cut the number an offer a choice. There is no possible way to cover 300 guests with one entree Cordon bleu? Usually has a breading so there goe your gluten people. And cheese.

Not everyone eats beef, though it's always the most popular entree.

I'd be rethinking the guest list because honestly, with that many guests and a budgetary concern already? You're setting yourself up for more money stress.

That's at least 30-40 centerpieces. That's a lot. And that is just the beginning.

Only $6 more PP. IMO try to save up that amount so people have two options. Chicken may be more popular, but I don't eat chicken. And i'm almost sure that not everyone will like cordon bleu. You should have an option to accommodate everyone.

We are doing chicken, beef, and vegetarian and letting our guests tell us on the rsvp if they have a diet restriction such as vegan or gluten free.

I wouldn't eat either due to dietary preferences (no red meat, no pork). You know your guests, but a vegetarian or other option might be nice.

Yeah, I wouldn't eat that chicken because it has ham in it.

Choosing one is severely limiting and can definitely get problematic if you have an open bar (people are drinking expecting a meal and then meal time comes and the entree is something they don't eat. So then they don't have anything to absorb the booze and things start to get sloppy)

But yeah if you HAVE to only have one, I'd go for a chicken but definitely a different chicken (without ham or cheese in it, ideally)

You have two years. This should be enough time to save the money and offer your guests a choice of both entrees. I'm not even sure why you're making this decision now. You don't need final menu decisions two years before a wedding. You may change your mind about the menu in 1.5 years.

What's your vegetarian option? You could potentially get away with a beef and a vegetarian
