Hey Ya'll!

My current body measurements are 38"- bust (38 DDD), 29"- smallest part of my waist, 44"- hips around butt and everything, too. (pics below to get a general sense of my body type). So, I will be going dress shopping for the first time this Sunday at a Maggie Sottero trunk show. According to the size chart for the designer I will be dress shopping for, I am a size 12 bust, size 10 waist and a size 16 hips. So, my questions are:

1. What size does this mean I will have to order?

2. Do there tend to be dresses in these sizes as samples in the dress boutique?

3. Any advice or pics of brides with similar dresses? What size did you have to order? What was your shopping experience like?

4. Any suggestions for silhouette type?

I put pics below so you can see what my shape looks like, since it's hard to just decide based on a bunch of measurement numbers.

Thanks times a million in advance and the best to you and your nuptials!

Besides the boobs, I have a similar shape (my hips and ass are about 3 times the size of the rest of me!) and am one size in waist and another below. I was convinced that I could/should only look at A lines. But at one shop the gal put me in a trumpet and I was like, "hello, are those MY hips??" So definitely experiment! :-)

Here's the dress I ended up getting. It's an Essense of Australia.

We are measurement twins practically. I will say a prayer for you for Sunday because initially I was very discouraged. I would stay away from a-line and ball gown dresses. It does nothing for our figures. I'm 36-29-42 and I had a hard time fitting my hips into the sample sizes. Most of the mermaid/trumpet styles I tried on were bunched at the hip (too tight) so I couldn't get a real idea of how it would look.

I would try on dropped waist and mermaid/trumpet. My hips were in a 16 initially but I'm currently working on getting them into a 14 to avoid a crap load of alterations (like you my waist is in a 10). Bridal sizes are nuts and aren't maid for curvy women. Hopefully, your salon will be similar to mine, in that they only had a size 10 in the dress I REALLY wanted to try on and they ordered a 18 for me to try. I ended up falling in love!

Good luck! I will send you a pic of my dress too if you want to see it.

I'm struggling with the same issues. I have a 34 1/2 bust, 27 waist and 42 hips. The Maggie Sottero size chart puts my hips on the cusp of a 12/14. I'm hesitant to get a 14 where they'll have to take 7 inches off the top. I feel it'll compromise the dress and cost a fortune in alterations. The hips for a size 12 are 41 1/2 so I figured I'll be fine by the time the wedding comes, I'm planning to lose 10 pounds anyways. We're talking about 1/2 inch! However, the ladies at the boutique where I bought my dress are making me nervous. They think I should size up. It's a difficult situation because you don't want to spend a fortune in alterations!

I'm getting the Primrose dress BTW..
