Liquor in MI is pretty expensive and we have a few trips planned on to D.C. and NC planned and FH and I live 1.5 hours from WI, plus ffil is willing to drive to OH and we go through IN 2 times a month. So I was hoping some of you ladies could tell me which of these states have the cheapest prices?

Indiana for sure. I have lived in MI for ever (almost) and my DD lives in Indiana. I stock up every time I visit her. I am retired military and IN prices are as good if not better than what you can get at the Class VI stpre on any base I have ever been to.

Keep in mind that you can't buy alcohol in Indiana on Sundays if you do go that route. You can buy it in bulk at Cosco and Sam's Club for pretty cheap, but not on Sundays :-)

In Wisconsin alcohol is readily available pretty much everywhere (grocery stores, gas stations, etc) every day of the week. They do stop selling after I think 9pm. Our tax is 5.5% and I'd say prices are reasonable depending where you go. I'd aim for grocery stores like Woodmans.

In Florida, you can't buy alcohol before noon on Sundays.

Be careful about transporting across state lines. You may want to check the state laws. If you end up paying a fine, there goes your savings!

I'm not sure where you go in Indiana, but just over the Indiana/Illinois state border in Watseka, IL alcohol is super cheap! Beer comes in 30 pack for $10 and you can buy the pallet. Kegs are cheap too (they put in the tap for free).

Not sure about the prices but MD has a 9% beer/wine/liquor tax to worry about!!

ETA: Whether or not you can buy alcohol on Sundays depends on the county, so keep that in mind as well.

Hey! Fellow Michigander here, but I lived in Ohio for 6 years, and PA for 2. I do not recommend PA, also keep in mind that each of these states have different liquor laws.

In Ohio you have to go to a state liquor store to purchase, which is not as convenient as getting it anywhere we want in MI. Though if someone has a Costco membership, then that would be the way to go in OH.

Also, in PA you have to buy liquor and wine at one store, you can get six packs at six-pack stores, then you have to go to larger distributors to buy multiple 12 packs or anything larger...its very bizarre.

Someone had mentioned Canada, which is a really good idea. I was just talking with some co-workers this week and discussing that liquor is at least $2.00 cheaper at the duty free, and you don't actually have to cross the border anymore to buy apparently (the store is they have re-routed the whole area, I haven't been to Canada in 10 years).

    Good Luck!

It might just depend on how much your bringing back, maybe make multiple trips since you have time? I don't know how you would find that out......

    1. Come up with a list of what you want.

    2. Hit Google to look for liquor stores in the areas you'll be visiting.

    3. Call them and tell them you are planning a wedding and would like to know how much the order would be. (They do this all the time for events like this.)

    4. Whoever has the best price, place your order.

If I were to guess, I'd expect NC to be most likely to have the lowest prices. Just about everything gets cheaper as you move south.
