Gabrielle, on February 13, 2020 at 10:27 AM Posted in Honeymoon 1 6

We are not "Out of the Country" people, so we are planning a week trip to Charleston! Any suggestions on places to visit, eat, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated! Smiley heart

We are going to Charleston for our honeymoon too! We don't have anything planned yet. I'm hoping to go to the aquarium. Almost everyone I've talked to has suggested the historical tours so we will probably do one of those

I didn't know there was an aquarium!!

Some ideas I have compiled include:

    Shem Creek Kayaking

    Angel Oak Park

    Rainbow Row

    The Cypress Gardens

    The Pineapple Fountain

    Fort Sumter

    *maybe* a fishing charter

I don't know if it's right in Charleston but I was googling aquariums in SC and the SC Aquraium is close by I thought! I definitely want to go to the pineapple fountain and I think we could enjoy Fort Sumter as well

We are about 3 hours of Charleston and spend about 2 weeks there every year! I also bought my veil there 😍!

-Charlestown Fermentory is a must if you love beer (head brewer was the original head brewer from trillium)... Westbrook is also great- ghost tour of the old jail is always a good time- check out rainbow row and the battery! - We love eating at Magnolias, Husk, and O-Ku.. they are a little pricey but great.- if money isn’t an issue for food .. check out the famous Halls Chophouse.- there are three great beaches near Charleston to check out (folly, Sullivan’s island and isle of palms)-Carmella’s is a great dessert/cocktail bar-Vendue has an amazing rooftop bar view- there are tons of old plantations to explore as well-shopping down kings street is also a great time

I had to move away a few months ago (hopefully very temporary!) for my job, but I've lived in Charleston for the last 14 years Smiley smile It has become my favorite place in the world and I HIGHLY recommend it as a honeymoon spot! Do y'all like craft beer and/or wine? What time of year are you looking to visit? Here are some recommendations off the top of my head. If you like breweries, I'll send along a few of the best of those too Smiley smile

-Deep Water Vineyard- a bit of a drive but really beautiful and serene. You'd want to do this on the same day you visit the Angel Oak.

-Spend a day just walking around downtown, using East Bay St, King St & Broad St as rough parameters. So many great restaurants, bars, shopping and just cool nooks and crannies everywhere. My favorite bar downtown is called the The Blind Tiger. Look up it's history Smiley smile

-Shem Creek is incredible and one of my favorite places. Red's Icehouse and Tavern and Table are my fav places to eat/drink on the creek. Kayaking and paddle boarding on the creek is really fun, however it is a very busy inlet with tons of boats coming and going and sometimes they are not very respectful of the kayakers/paddleboarders. I'd recommend doing this in the morning to avoid drunken boaters, lol.

-Cypress Gardens is also very beautiful, plan to rent a canoe while you're there.

-If you're going to the beach, Kiawah is my fav. It's a long drive, but it's so much nicer and quieter than IOP or Folly, and also nice shopping and restaurants just off the beach. If you don't want to go that far, both IOP and Folly are nice so either would be fine.
