Charleston Catering

Dakota, on January 15, 2018 at 1:34 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 33

Hey guys! Does anyone know of any Charleston (or surrounding area) caterers for no more than $10 a head? We are on a decently tight budget and just can't find anything.

That's waaaay cheap for catering. In my area, you won't find anything priced that low. A BBQ restaurant or maybe Italian would probably be the cheapest option, but they will still be over $10 a head most likely.

I would consider cutting the guest list because it will be nearly impossible to find anything in that price range.

Even restaurant catering will be more than $10 per head. Sounds like it's time to reconsider your plans and either cut the guest list to a level you can afford or switch to a mid afternoon cake and punch reception.

Or instead of having a buffet/seated dinner maybe go the cocktail reception route-- sometimes snacks can be cheaper than an actual meal. $10pp is going to be very hard to find.

Jennifer, that often ends up being more expensive. You need a lot of snacks.

Consider having a cake and punch reception at a non-meal time as GttC suggested.

The reason you can't find anything is because your budget is extremely low. Even if you did a BBQ catering company or some type of food truck theme with pizza or sandwiches, it will absolutely be over $10 per person (with sides, drinks, etc.)

If you can't get dinner in a restaurant for $10, you are unlikely to find a caterer at that price. Cut your guest list or change your reception to something you can afford. Check out brunch or afternoon wedding with cake and punch.

Depends on how many people are being invited. Just requires creativity and understanding that if they have to stay in that budget it's not going to be a "full belly" thing so to speak.

Then they should cut their guest lists so it is a full belly thing or elope.

What on God's Green Earth is a full belly thing?

Do you have someone in charge of counting the aps or servings people take and yelling at them ato stop?

I've attended a wedding where it wasn't about the food--- It was about being there to celebrate the couple who are getting married, and everyone who attended loved it. People are so worried about what is "the correct" way to have a wedding. Not saying that this is how I would do it but if they don't want to wait or push back or cut people it's their right. It's about being surrounded by friends and family to celebrate their union.

That's all fine and lovely, but it is also a host's responsibility to provide their guests with food if they are inviting them to an event that's at a meal time. Not just snacks. A meal.

I prefer to “celebrate a couple” with a full belly and free booze. Not mad because I’m not fed after buying a new dress, getting my nails done, traveling and buying them a gift.

The reception is about hosting those who witnessed your vows.

Send them home with a full belly.

Well I guess there you have it-- give up your idea of getting married when you want and being surrounded by your friends and family and celebrating how you can because you can't "host the correct way" LOL

Either way Dakota good luck at whatever options you come up with for your wedding and celebration Smiley smile

A wedding isn't about food. But if you host an hours-long event over a meal time, you need to provide adequate food for your guests. You can't expect someone to stay from 4-10pm and be hungry during that time. Are they supposed to then drive home after and make themselves a late snack? That's ridiculous and poor hosting.

Don't want your wedding to "be about the food"? Then don't host it over a meal time.

ETA: OP- time to move your wedding to a non-meal time so you can host snacks for $10/head, cut your guest list, or re-arrange your budget to give yourself more money for food. Hungry guests are unhappy guests.

I'm in Charleston and I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Maybe talk to the folks over at Tiki Taco on Rivers. They have a trailer, that they started out of, on College Park and they might be able to help you. But when tacos are only a maybe budget wise, it might be a problem.
I agree that you will probably have to cut your guest list, or refigure other expenses. We have world class parks and if you rent a shelter it includes tables and chairs, which is a huge savings on a small budget.
    How many guests?

These are your dearest loved ones. It’s far better to take care of a few people REALLY well than a bunch of people with unfull bellies and cheap.

    Oh, good. She's learning.

    I can haz sarcasm, too.

OP, looks like you've gotten a couple of different ideas to consider here -- cut the guest list or cake and punch at a non-meal time.
