People keep asking me if I'm changing my name after I get married. I am planning on taking his last name, easy question.

But then my mom was asking if I was going to make my maiden name my middle name and drop the middle name or if I was keeping my middle name. I guess I just never thought past the idea that I would want to take his name.

Are you changing your name? If so, how are you changing it?

Girls, it's 2019. Please keep your own last name. Your name is your identity. Don't propagate the tradition that a woman legally disappears into the man she marries. Historically, men simply existed in the world while women were identified based on their marital status....let's try and nip that one in the bud. You need the same name for your family if you have kids? Adopt the woman's last name. Or make up a name together. Let's get a little more creative when it comes to names. There's no reason why, in this day and age, we need to continue on in the sexist tradition.

I don’t have middle names and don’t like middle names so that was never an option for me. I planned on keeping both by hyphenated but then just went the simple route in the end and dropped my last name.

Wow what a great post because this is really news to me that we had a choice to completely drop our maiden name !! I love it only bc I never got an opportunity to change my name legally to my step dads name bc he raised me and not my bio dad . I grew up hating my last name bc it didn’t feel like mine plus everyone else in my family had my step dads name . It was a personal insecurity. Long story short it’s nice to know now I can enjoy my FH name legally 😍😍 I love my FH last name it makes me fancy

Keeping maiden name because it would be hell to change it (medical field). Told FH I’ll respond to Mrs. Marriedname socially. Don’t plan on having kids so thats not an issue.

I will be dropping my maiden name, keeping my current middle name, and only changing my last name to FH's last name.

I never even considered dropping my middle name to keep my maiden name. I didn’t know that was an option, but I guess the laws in some states vary. I am just dropping my maiden name and taking his name. I like my last name, but I don’t like the people attached to it, so I lost all my attachment to it.
