Changing Weddng Dress for the reception?

marriedlady, on May 18, 2012 at 5:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I've been watching 4 Brides and Say Yes to the Dress, and a lot of brides are wearing a different dress for the reception. So I was just wondering how many WW brides were also doing that.

I have thought that my dress is going to be HEAVY to dance in, but I don't really think I can afford another dress. If I could, I think I would though.

So I was just curious, who's changing dresses and what's your reason? =)

I'm planning on wearing the same dress all day! My ceromony is only going to be about 20 minutes i'm not going to spend a lot of money on a dress, its your wedding day and i plan on only having one and i'm going to wear it as long as I can!

I'm wearing mine all day until we turn in for the night! (we are getting married at sunrise) My dress is short and very light though. My reason is because I love dress and FI is going to love it too...I don't wear dresses often so he will be happy when he sees me in one. Plus I'm cheap and don't feel like shopping for another one.

I've been struggling with that idea lately. Our venue is partially indoors and partially outdoors, and March down here can be hot or cold, so there's no predicting it. I'm hoping to find something lightweight enough that it won't be an issue. I'll only be wearing my dress once, I want to wear it ALL day. But if I fall in love with something heavy and bulky, I might end up getting a second dress for backup.

LOL, you ladies are too funny! Well I think I agree with Yardiegirl, I'm gonna wear it until the bling falls off! =)

Or at least until I fall over because it's so heavy! =(

With all of the changes that I made to my dress, it would be too heavy for me to wear all night. My dress is now almost ten pounds and the cathedral length train is another five pounds and my dress isn't finished yet. I will be switching into another dress after dinner, right in time for the serious dancing.

I was going to get a cute, short dress. Turns out I'll be 6 months pregnant so I'm staying in my dress all night. Boo

I'm wearing mine for the whole wedding shindig. I will however be switching into a departure outfit because we are leaving for the honeymoon directly after.

I didn't go into dress shopping looking for two dresses, but I was at a sample sale and found a cute short dress for the reception for $50 and my ceremony formal dress was only $400 and my budget going in was $2000, so I didn't feel bad getting the short dress. It's all about what works for you, look on craigslist and look for sample sales, I found out about the sale I went to here on WW.

I love my dress too much to change into another one! I'm never going to wear it again, so I'm going to get as much use out of it as possible.

The wedding and TV industry is teaching brides they are not enough. It is a emotional business. Many brides want to be better and top their friends. I always say be yourself.

Love one dress and one man. Save all the money you can for a down payment on a place and for hot honeymoon cloths !

I personally can't imagine changing my dress! I'm buying a dress that will me feel beautiful but will also be functional for both dancing and saying our vows. I don't think I will even be ready to take the dress off after the night is over. I'll probably want to wear it for as long as I can.

To me, it's a waste of money. I can see why some brides might choose to buy a second dress, but it's not in my view of my wedding.

We are having a DW and a US reception. Our DW is in Jamaica and I am wearing my gown for the ceremony and then changing into a shorter lighter dress for the reception. Then I am wearing my gown again for our US reception so my family gets to see me in it. So I am changing, but my situation is a little different than most peoples.

My reasons, it will most likely be extremely hot in Jamaica so my heavy dress will have to go haha plus I am worried that I won't have time to have it cleaned before our reception so if someone spills a drink on me or something I will be screwed.
