Changing shoes

Faye, on October 3, 2016 at 2:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21

So i see a lot of posts saying people are wearing heels for the ceremony and then flats for the reception. How are you accounting for the dress length? Just letting it be longer? Or does the bustle help?

Don't have an answer because I'm not swapping out shoes. But I'll bump your post :-)

I got my dressed hemmed for my flats. I'll be spending more time barefoot (wedding on beach) or in flats so I wanted the dress to look good. I initally got it hemmed with the heels but when i took the shoes off and put on the flats, the dress was to baggy at the bottom. When I put my heels on now you can see my heels just a little which is fine b/c they are super cute.

Most bridal shops will hem it to the height of your lowest shoe. So if you're planning to wear two different shoes with different heights, the shoes will show when you wear the higher heel. That's fine if you don't care, but technically, by fashion standards, shoes aren't supposed to show.

Some places may leave it long, but how it looks will depend on the style of the dress. A ballgown will totally lose its shape if it's too long because instead of puffing out, it will be stopped by the floor and will gather around you. A mermaid will also have that problem, but to a lesser extent. A sheath might work a little better, but you're at risk of tripping on it while dancing.

Mine hemmed to the length of the taller shoe, but then added some ribbons on the bottom layer that I can tie together to raise the dress the 1.5" in heel height difference.

I am changing into wedges or sneaker wedges. Flats would make my dress too long

Im thinking of changing into wedges too. Just more comfortable and better balance especially after a few drinks.

I'm leaving mine long when I change into flats. I'm really not super worried about because I think i will be picking up the dress out of habit just to walk around in heels anyway

I'm actually wearing sandals for the ceremony & reception for this exact reason! Spending too much money to hem it then have it not be perfect with other shoes.

I'm wearing my heels all night. I'm all about suffering through the fun. I've been to weddings where they offer flip flops but it's just more fun to me partying on in 4 inch heels all night. (Clearly I don't get too many excuses to dress up - otherwise I might feel differently)

I swapped to flats for the bulk of the reception. My dress was hemmed for my heels, so it was a little long. Wasn't a huge deal, just picked up the front a little when I walked around.

I'm worried about this too! I got some 3" heels that match my wedding gown but I'm so concerned about wearing them all night. I was originally going to wear flat but I put the heels on and loved them. But my feet do not! I found some nice wedges I would like to change into for dancing but they have a 1" heel, and I'm worried about that 2" difference!!

I'm hemming to the flats. My heels are blue so by hemming a little short for them I'll get a Pologne color.

I'm just hoping my bustle helps me out with the length because my shoes are 5in high, and I was thinking of wearing them for most of the night, but holy shit they are uncomfortable! So I just decided to buy flats and heck with the length of the dress. I just want to be comfortable. Smiley smile

I had mine hemmed to the flats. You really can't tell a difference when I have the heels on, tbh, but I'm not dragging the floor in flats, either.

We are wearing converse the whole night. Also not helming my dress because budget doesn't allow for alterations
