So and I get called a pickme a lot of this but maybe bec I did the whole single independent own identity thing is why I was so ready to slam my maiden name in the closet forever (Lord willing) 😄 --- but a last name unless to literally made some ish up, is ALWAYS EVER a man's name so if you hyphen you got your daddy and hubby's name.... but aren't you now aligned with a whole hubby AWAY from your father traditionally speaking (rhetorical?). So that was me line of thinking, and also I'm deeply into history and my married name. Goes back to the Dark Ages and is an ode to farmers and gardeners which is awesome to me.

I changed mine to his simply because I didn’t like having the most common last name in America (Smith) 😬


I think if my maiden name had been more unique, I would have considered hyphenating or maybe even keeping it.

Hi Imani I didn't know that you had a daughter you never mentioned to me. But I think that's it's cute that she wants to have first last name. Now as for me I have thought it for a while I have other daughters and Grandchildren with my last name. But I had going back and forth with it plus my name is already long first and middle name. So I will change my last name that part really excites me then find out that my middle daughter has his last name already but it's a long story but. I will give short version she had been using my last name for 25yrs she lost her birth certificate and had to get another 1 when it was discovered she had his last name. So she is changing everything now

Oh wow! After 25 years and she has his name already. Wow! I’m glad you’re happy about changing your last name, that is an exciting moment. One thing I thought about with changing my name is the paperwork. I also found out that Id have to change my name on my degrees as well. It just seem like a lot of work to do to get everything changed. But, I’m going back & forth. I will figure it out before the end of the year lol

I'm Happy that work in a sweet way lol yes she does I forgot that we did give him his last name,but I don't know why I didn't get a copy of but when I had gotten robbed I had to get all of our info when she was like 1yrs old that's what they gave me. Which was with my last name so that's what we been using for 25 yrs
So now she is in that process of it now to change over too her fathers last name from driver's license to bank etc. She once to announce it at our wedding to tell him that she did have his last name. That for your advice so now I've made the choice. Lol

It is funny how we can get the opportunity to change from a last name that is either too common or too unusual. I sort of like this opportunity to change my name to something a bit less common. But this event is still a year away.
