Change of plans

FH and I have decided to go on a cruise instead of a week in Jamaica. We are hoping to still do a week long cruise right after the wedding, so the first week of March. Neither one of us have ever taken a cruise before. Is anyone going on a cruise or been on a cruise before? Where have you traveled to? Pros and cons? Which cruise lines have you used? Cabin vs suite vs oceanview? Both of my coworkers speak highly of Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I looked a bit today and Royal Caribbean is having buy one get the second person 50%, so we are leaning on them so far. Please help! TIA 💜

We are going on a 7 day cruise out of PR with Carnival. I recommend a balcony for your honeymoon! My first cruise I had a balcony and got spoiled and now I won’t have anything else!! Cons of cruises is they can seem crowded at times, pros is that it’s all inclusive and you get to see lots of places!! We leave next Friday and I can’t wait!!!

What Stephanie said, get Oceanview with a balcony without an obstruction and (upgrade) pay extra for VIP. VIP status allows you to embark and disembark (that's get on/off the ship) much smoother or faster than non vip. It was my first cruise (his 5th) and I'm so glad we went vip for our honeymoon cruise, so much that should I ever cruise again, I will only go it vip status. It's quieter in vip and comes with tons of perks including the top of the line stewards (I think that's what they are called) who took care of our every want and need around the clock (yes the tips helped too..haha). No better feeling than a new couple treated like royalty for the first 8 days. We did the carnival elation ship and were very specific that we didn't want to be in an area (of our sleeping area) with tons of kids and they delivered (we love kids but ours are grown). We went thru a travel agency and I'm glad we did.

I’ve been on a lot of cruises. The one Carnival cruise we went on was my least favorite. I felt that if you weren’t a super diamond club member (as in have been on their cruises 40 times before) that they did not treat you as well and definitely showed more concern for the service of those who were. I’ve been on a ton of Royal Caribbean, two Disney and a Norwegian. Disney cruises are by far the nicest, but are insanely expensive. I suggest to anyone who wants to go on them to book it very far in advance, as their prices never go down or on sale. Norwegian was great for the girls weekend cruise we took. Not as much for little ones as the other companies, but would be a great choice for a honeymoon. They also have a lot of good deals. Royal Caribbean is usually my go to. I can always find a good sale and they have a lot of options for rooms. My parents always cruise with Celebrity, who is a sister company to Royal Caribbean, and highly enjoy every one they go on. They tend to be a little more expensive than Royal Caribbean.
No matter which you choose, I highly recommend a balcony room if you can afford it. Especially for your honeymoon where you will probably want to spend a little more romantic time in your room. All the rooms are small, so having that little bit of extra outside space really makes a difference. March is a good time to cruise. It’s usually good weather. The only thing you may run into when booking is if your dates line up with spring breaks. Sometimes that will make the prices go up a little, but it shouldn’t be bad if that’s the case. I’m not sure where you live or where you want to sail out of, but keep in mind the travel time from home to the port because you don’t want to miss the ship! Have fun!!

I’ve cruised to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. I prefer Carnival Cruise over everybody else. My reason is because they are a little bit cheaper and I get to have a little bit more than what I want then the rest. I always get a balcony room. Call me crazy but I’m not having another Titanic going on. No not really I just like having a balcony because of in the middle of the night emergency.

I got engaged on a norweigen cruise to Bermuda! I've also been on a royal Caribbean cruise. Def get balcony like don't even question anything else! Norweigen gave free open bar and hands down we would never cruise again without that, but we both enjoy cocktails! They also had like specialty dining credits, shore excursion money to spend, and free airfare if needed. I would say do a crazy excursion. We went scuba diving and it was so great and worth the money, we have a really great memory. I liked our cruise bc we were in one place and got to really enjoy the island. The previous cruise I went on stopped at 4 islands and they all felt a little rushed.

FH and me LOVE Norwegian. Carnival to me is a bunch of rowdy party animals and WAY too many kids for me. NCL has some kids depending on the itinerary but it’s far fewer. We are considering doing their Hawaii itinerary for our honeymoon as well.
