Champagne toast?

Leslie, on April 27, 2017 at 12:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

So my venue doesn't provide the food or drinks and I'm beginning to plan for our alcohol purchase. We're having a signature cocktail for the cocktail hour and hard liquor, beer, wine and soda for the remainder of the reception. But I'm now thinking about the toast and wondering how many folks who are purchasing their own liquor are also purchasing champagne or a separate champagne-like beverage i.e. sparkling wine, proseco, etc. or just having guests toasts whatever drink they have at the appropriate time.

We're doing toasts but not champagne toasts, I figured people could just toast with whatever they're drinking.

At first I was planning on a champagne toast, but after speaking with some of my guests, a majority of them said they don't like champagne. So now we are skipping the champagne and having everyone toast with whatever beverages they have.

Our venue provided everything, but charged $5pp for the champagne toast. They strongly advised against it since so few people actually drink it and most people do drink-in-hand toasts instead. I actually really like champagne, but we opted against it and trusted their expertise

We're just doing a drink in hand toast. I actually really wanted a champagne toast, but our venue has cava instead of champagne and it is not good. Unfortunately, we have to go through them for all alcohol.

We're trying to see if we can bring in nice champagne for just us.

The FH wants the champagne toast. We were given Crystal ice buckets as a gift from the owner of the company he works for that will be on the tables and the oldest men will be opening them. I can see it now like the Christmas story, you'll shoot your eye out. But we will be outside and they can aim off the deck and get some awesome photos. People who don't want it don't have to partake. Its what we like and well we have been enjoying sampling the last couple months. We will get a case of Venve Clicquot which I picked up for a dinner party this weekend too.

My venue suggested we do a drink in hand toast. They said in most cases people drink it just for the toast and there ends up being half full champagne glasses everywhere. I thought it made sense. Smiley smile

I think unless champagne toasts are included in your bar package then in my opinion leave it off. When our couples have them we do end up pouring alot of bubbly out, so to me it is a waste. People will toast with what drink they may have.

Since we were also buying our own alcohol we did do a champagne toast. We purchased a cava which was less expensive. I always like them, it makes the occasion feel more special IMO.

I'm planning for people to toast with whatever they are drinking. We weren't even going to get champagne initially but FIL's offered to buy the alcohol and decided they wanted to include some.

I don't like champagne, so I just toast with whatever I'm drinking. The last wedding I was at had a couple bottles of wine (one white, one red) on the tables and people toasted with that.

We are not buying champagne and just letting everyone use what they have in their hands. Not many people care for it and I think it would be a waste of money since we would have to provide it.

We are going to let our guests toast with whatever drink is in their hands at that moment

I don't like champagne and the russians will want to toast with vodka anyways haha Especially if it's an extra charge I say have people toast with what drink they have- then they'll for sure enjoy it!

I wouldn't worry about a champagne toast. People can toast with whatever they're already drinking. I'm already going to have a shit ton of sparkling wine for the mimosa bar, so people are welcome to drink that, but they don't have to.

My FMIL insists we do a champagne toast. I'm a laid back bride! It's mostly will be a sip and then straight to the beer! But I'm also not planning on getting drunk so I don't really care!

I decided against a champagne toast based on what others have already mentioned. It seemed like an unnecessary, added cost. My guests will just toast with whatever drink they have.

Our venue doesnt carry an alcohol license so if we want a bar we would have to pay $200 for a bartender and plus security plus the alcohol... They said if we only do a champagne toast we don't need to acquire a bartender or security. I was hoping the toast would be enough, as the wedding is only 4 hours long (6pm to 10pm) and i dont want people getting drunk... Now this thread is making me rethink things
