Champagne Toast Help

Rebecca, on May 3, 2017 at 4:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Who gives the toast normally? And do we absolutely have to have champagne or can it be a toast with whatever people are drinking? Is the toast before dinner? Or with the speeches or? I only ask because a lot of my family members are recovering alcoholics and we definitely don't want to force anything on anyone or make someone feel left out. TIA

We had wine on the tables and then all other alcohol including champagne was up at the bar. The bottles of champagne weren't opened as nobody asked for it. The guests toasted with what they were drinking

Best man or one of the fathers usually offer a toast

We are skipping the glasses of champagne on the table because i was told many of them go to waste. people will just toast with whatever they are drinking. our maid of honor and best man have offered to do short toasts. we are planning to do them while people are eating dinner so we can get to the dancing and not keep people captive at the tables. sometimes the parents also give a toast, but it's up to you. i think the key is to keep it short and not have too many of them!

I hate champagne so my FH and I are drinking wine instead. I have a bridesmaid go can't drink alcohol because of health issues so she's drinking grape juice or whatever else she prefers.

I see very few specific "champagne toasts". I vote to cheers with whatever is in your glass at the end of every toast Smiley smile

ETA: The father of the bride, best man, and maid of honor usually give toasts at the reception!

We're not doing a "champagne toast", we're just having everyone toast with what they are already drinking. We'll have the DJ announce when the toast will happen, so they can have their drinks in hand!

We were planning to do a champagne toast but realized we could save several hundred dollars by just letting people toast with what they are already drinking. So that's what we're doing! We will have the maid of honor and best woman do speeches, I think. The fathers might say something, too.

^^ Jessie could have written my post. We canceled the champagne toast and guests can toast with whatever is in their glass.
