Champagne in Ice Bucket on Tables at Outdoor Wedding?

Kathryn, on December 18, 2018 at 6:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

My venue is a private, family-owned estate so we can kind of do whatever we want. We're having an open bar and we're having taco grills brought in to do the catering. I haven't asked them if they do champagne service yet, but I will.

As a side thought, I imagined a bottle of champagne on each table in an ice bucket, with an empty champagne glass at each place setting. That way if they want to have champagne for the toast, they can pour it themselves. Is this a super tacky idea? I know some places do wine bottles on the tables, so I don't see why I can't do champagne on the tables, too!

I have to serve 200 guests and having 200 champagne glasses filled sounds like a hassle when people probably wouldn't think twice about pouring it themselves.

    I don’t think that’s tacky at all.

I don't think it is tacky, but I would also consider maybe including a bottle of sparkling cider or something, so that there is something for people who can't drink alcohol.

Oooh wonderful idea! Thank you!! It'll be a rustic setting with a lot of eucalyptus table runners and I thought a metal ice bucket with bottles would look nice - this makes it an even better option if I have sparkling cider too. Some of my SO's family doesn't drink alcohol so that's perfect.

I think a bottle right at each table is great! Just make sure they’re all opened first or you’ll have corks flying everywhere! Lol

That would be cute! You could also hire waiters to come around and pour?

I'd probably make sure the glasses are placed upside down before they're filled so no dirt, dust, etc get into them. I've seen a small little twig with a leaf land directly in an upturned glass and I wouldn't want a glass with potential dirt ..but I love the idea!!

Ha, seriously! There is a story that at my BIL's wedding, someone popped the champagne, it hit the chandelier above the bridal party and all of the glass shattered over everyone. In their food and everything. What a nightmare!

Not tacky at all - and I think makes a lot of sense as not everyone likes champagne. My friends that worked weddings tell me that quite a bit goes to waste if a glass is poured for everyone. At my wedding, we just had it available for people that wanted it. I wouldn't let each table actually open the bottle though - seems like an injury waiting to happen :-)

I don't think of that as tacky at all! I'm planning for my table setting to be rustic and vintage, with buckets of champagne and ice set across the tables. If you're going for a similar theme, I think champagne buckets offer the perfect touch! Also, it'll give caterers or waiters(?) less work to do.
