Chair Sashes - - How To Care For And Get Wrinkles Out - A Few Words Of Wisdom

Carole M (a.k.a "old tart"), on July 22, 2012 at 2:07 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

I need to go on record in admitting I hate chair covers & sashes. I think they are ugly. I prefer chiavari chairs. Cate's venue provides chair covers as part of the pkg. However, they do not provide the sashes. Cate & her FH fell in love w/ the look & on Black Friday of 2011 bought 170 of the pale pink suckers from linentablecloths.com.

When they arrived, I checked the color & count, & put them aside. In the box they have sat since then. That was a huge mistake. If you have sashes, remove them from their packages & let them hang on hangers in your basement or near a source of heat. I have started the biggest PIA proj of this wedding, the steaming of the sashes! It is a daunting task & I hate it. A few tips:

1. Fold each in 1/2 & steam them on the ironing board. Steamer prefered

3. Put them 2 at a time, next to each other on a hanger. When the hanger is filled use a clothes pin to hold them on to the hanger.

4. Store them in a gown garment bag.

UGG, what a job!

OOps, to add insult to injury, the venue charges $1.50 per sash to affix them to each chair. No, I am not paying for that service.

    Ugh!

You had so much on your plate last year and the beginning of this year, I'm sure chair sashes was the Last thing on your mind.

So sorry you have the task of prepping all those sashes. If I lived closer I would help! Would hanging them in the bathroom with the hot shower running help at all?

Thanks for the tips! Don't spill your drink! Smiley winking

Hayley....They were def the last thing on my mind. : ) I wish you lived closer too. I would love the company and spending time with the little ones. Santino is now 4, so the snuggles are limited. Cate needs to get moving on the grandchildren department. lolol Did I just type that? I almost saved them for when Cate and Dom arrived, but they are driving up from FLorida and will get her the Monday before the wedding. I want to be able to enjoy that week with her, not steam sashes or do any other last minute wedding stuff. Besides, the venue wants all things being used for the wedding five days prior to the wedding. We did try the shower thing. It wasn't working. Perhaps if we had done that initially, it would have no problem.

Tinabobina....It was my pleasure. If one bride can learn from one of my stupid mistakes than all is good. Maybe the shower method would work if you get them out of the box ASAP. Good luck.

Thanks for the advise Carole. I am in a renewal ceremony later this year and am in charge of the sashes. Now I know what to do with them when they arrive.

In case anyone has wondered, I think I have about 60 left to steam. Oh Lord, this job needs to take time off of any time I have in purgatory.

There is an easy way to get rid of the wrinkles but it requires two people. One person holds the iron set to the correct temp on the ironing board. The other person pulls the sash through from one end right through to the other. The two of you are four times faster than one person. Essentially you pull the sash through while the iron remains stationary. It takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it you will get through them quickly

What I need though is a way to store them effectively without creating wrinkles. I have found that if you roll them tightly in sets of 10 there is no need to iron them as the rolling process smoothens them out nicely
