To make a long story short, we found out that if we want to have chair covers during the reception we cannot bring any in from outside, we have to use the ones they have there... and cost EIGHT DOLLARS EACH. I almost fainted when she told us that... FH said my face was priceless. While we haven't *offically* signed a contract (they won't let you sign until 1 year out from your date) but they know we are as serious as serious can get about our venue. What should I do?!?! The chairs they have are regular banquet chairs made from navy blue metal and green uplostering. I have a picture of them... I'll see if I can get it to show up here.

But AHHHHHHH now what?!

Yes, that is wayyyyyy too much, ours are 2.50 each but we can bring in our own. I guess venues have quirckie things like that, our venue is a country club and we cant take pictures there.

So. I emailed our coordinator on Sunday to thank her for staying late last Friday to let us see the space again and I politely let her know that $8 is beyond our budget for chair covers especially because we have to have at least 150 people at their venue at $39pp just for a buffet. She emailed me back and now I almost feel insulted because she said she'd "love to meet in the middle at $6 each". What. Ever. Six is not the middle. Four is the absolute max that I've seen at any rental place around here!

We have reluctantly started emailing other venues to see if there's another place that would work better. So far, no luck - either too expensive for what it is, have weird charges (include everything in price except we have to pay for chairs for a ceremony), or don't have any openings for next June.

Ladies, any ideas of what I can try next?

Let her know that $6 is not the going rate in the industry and you need her to do better or you will forego the chair covers all together. I would hope the "threat" would make her work a littler harder to get that rate down. I would hope she would want $4/chair versus $0/chair.

Email her back and tell her that $4 is the absolute most you could afford to spend for chair covers.

$8 per chair???? That's crazy!!!! My venue is charging $2 per chair. I agree with PP. Try to negotiate and if they don't budge then just forgo the covers. That is too much!!!

Our venue charges $5 per chair. We passed because with 150 guests that would be another $750 dollars to work in the budget. If our budget permits it close to the time of the wedding we my consider it since we can add that up to a week before our wedding day. As it looks now we mostly likely will pass the chair covers.

Chair covers was something I absolutely wanted from the very beginning and I was very upset with FH b/c his initial guest count was making it very cost-prohibitive. He has since cut his list and I got a discount from going to a bridal show for $3.50/chair. Going rate is $4/chair. He told me he would make sure the money was there but there was no way I could see spending over $1200 for chair covers which is what we were initially looking at.

If you haven't signed a contract, maybe keep looking at different venues? But if you're in love with this one I would do your research for chair cover prices in the area and present it to them, and tell them you will not pay $8 for a piece of material.

Keep looking around I cant believe they charge that much. Our venue had very high back chair covers and everyone I spoke to said oh they'll have to be custom made. We ended up finding a company that had them for only $7 each and I was thrilled but $8 for standard banquet chairs is absolutely a rip off keep looking you will find something

Say 4 is absolute max you'd be willing to pay AND if they can't meet you at the true middle, you'll be booking their competition venue (find out what that is... ?) and that you will report this to the BBB these highway robbers MAKE ME MAD.
