We will be having a handfasting before our friends and family. It is a tradition among people in my community and pays homage to our ancestry.

I planned on doing the candle ceremony but our officiant advised against it as our wedding is outdoors (didn't even think about that!). I was researching other ideas last night and the sand or rope ceremonies just didn't seem right for us. So I think we're going to go with a glass ceremony from this website. Love the idea of the finished piece on our mantel for years and years Smiley smile

We bought a customized wine box from amazon. We will be putting a bottle of wine and letters to each other in the box and locking it. We will open it on our 1 year anniversary then continue to lock a new bottle in the box

We lit a candle together, our moms lit our individual candles, then husband and I lit one together to signify our families becoming 1. It was special. We were in a church so it felt like the most practical. Sometimes being outside makes that harder with wind and such.

This was something we really struggled with, because we wanted something unique. But we couldn't find anything, and I didn't want to spend $75 on a unity thing, so we did sand in a picture frame.

We were looking at doing wine or beer as well but I love this idea especially because you get to continue the tradition every year with a new bottle!

We were originally planning on planting a tree together but our brother suggested sipping tea from the same cup, which I like the idea of as an herbalist! Probably one of those two for us. ❤️

We did our own version of hand fasting. I didn’t use the traditional cord just a chiffon silk ribbon with a beautiful lecture.

We plan to do a ceremony watering a plant of some sort. My FH is an avid gardner, and we are getting married on the water so are afraid a candle would blow out. My daughter has a history of shaking sand sculptures. We figured we could water the plant, maybe with our parents and kids, and then plant it in our yard afterwards. We are even considering have it at the reception for friends and other family to add a little bit of water to.
