Ceremony violinist

Meghan, on August 27, 2017 at 1:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

My FH and I are torn between having our dj provide music for our ceremony or if having a violinist is a good idea? The ceremony is only about a half hour so I'm not quite sure if it's worth it or not. I do love the idea of walking down the aisle to a violin though!

We are having a steel drum player for our ceremony. It was initially out of our budget but I got a great deal. I was devastated thinking we might not have it.

If you can afford it, do it. When will you have the opportunity again?

Most musicians we work with do a half hour of pre ceremony music as people are seated, the processional and recessional, and many do cocktail hour too.

I really like it honestly, but if you have a big group, a solo violinist may not be enough.

We had the same dilemma. We ended up deciding to go with recorded music because it's an outdoor ceremony with no power and we didn't know how it would sound and if it would be loud enough. If you like the idea of the violin, though, I'd go for it. I think the processional is one of the most important elements.

Go ahead with violinist. Think it's a wonderful idea. Having a saxophonist myself for my ceremony and DJ for the reception.

We have hired a Violinst and a cellist! Both for $220 total for just the ceremony. They are college music students from the university I graduated from. So they know what they're doing.

It will add a feel special feel to the ceremony!

We went with live musicians and ran into this tangle late in the game:

If we had hired a DJ for ceremony music, they would have provided a mic for our officiant. Our venue doesn't provide them.

We asked our venue what other couples who have live music do for amplification. Because our wedding is inside (and echoey!) this isn't a real problem for us. I just wanted to bring it up for you to weigh as you decide what's right for you!

We had a cellist for the ceremony. I thought it was very romantic. I say go for it!

I've worked with Violin by Vicki in suburban Chicago. She's not only a talented musician she's a real professional when it comes to "behind the scenes" stuff in delivering a memorable ceremony. Best wishes!
