Ceremony Shoes Reception Shoes

Natalie, on June 17, 2016 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I just scheduled my dress fitting for the end of July and I need to have my shoes when I go in. The dilemma I'm running into, I want to wear heels during the ceremony but flip-flops/sandals during the reception.

Does anyone know what I should tell the seamstress? I'm nervous that the dress will either be too short/too long because there will be a slight height difference between ceremony and reception.

Any advice?

For the fitting bring the heels you want to wear, or wear heels that are the height that you plan on buying for your dress. Maybe wear 2 or 3 inch heels. The height difference between the ceremony and reception change into sandals shouldn't be a big deal. If the dress is extremely long the seamstress could bundle it in the back so you can dance easier without tripping in your dress. They either put in buttons or clasps to bustle the train.

I wore flats for both my ceremony and reception. My dress was heavy satin, and they'd told me, "Don't hang it up or it'll stretch" so I didn't, but then it stretched so much, just the day of, I was tripping over the hem, anyway! I'd say wear the same height shoes for both and get it hemmed to that. The difference can really hamper dancing.

I'm doing the same. I didn't have to get it hemmed since I ordered a petite and it was perfect with heels. It's not that much difference without the heels. Maybe a few inches but nothing that would interfere with dancing.

Go for low-mid height heels, like 2-3 inch at max. That way when you switch to flats, your dress will still be manageable. I do it with my maxi dresses frequently.

I asked them when they altered my dress. They said to alter it to the flats so I wasn't tripping on my dress all night, and that even with heels, as full as my dress is, nobody will be able to see my shoes anyway.

This is what I was hoping to do as well! One of the things I thought of were flip flops with a wedge so it helped make up the difference some. The heel height I'm having issues with, the heels I have loved so far (plus a pair I already own in case I don't find anything) are all 4 inches lol.

Your seamstress might have some ideas on how to meet in the middle between two close heel heights too, I'd bring both shoes (or something with the height equivalents) to the fittings.
