Ceremony rehearsal- is day of too crazy?!?!?

Kylie, on September 24, 2019 at 4:52 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
My venue just informed me today that there is no way we can have our rehearsal the day before our wedding, due to practices being held (our venue is a theatre). with our wedding being 6 weeks from now, i'm pretty annoyed they didnt address this with me sooner. they offered us the weekend before for a rehearsal which is nice and all but half our wedding party is out of state, so they obviously wont be in town yet... so i'm kinda annoyed and stressed now just when i thought i had it all under control!!!!

so, my question, anybody on here planning on just doing a quick run through of the ceremony DAY OF the wedding? is that insane? i think i can work it into our schedule. our ceremony is like 20 min long IF that.

advice? tips?

I'd probably do the weekend before if it were me and accept people won't be able to make it. Our venue only let us do a rehearsal Friday morning for our Saturday wedding. They only allow one wedding at the venue at a time and there was a wedding Friday evening. 7/9 bridesmaids made it, 4/10 groomsmen made it. A lot of them were out of state, working, etc. so couldn't get the time off. We still did the rehearsal with that group, and the rest figured it out with our DOC the next day. It's pretty simple for everyone in the wedding party!

I've actually seen weddings not have any rehearsals at all and it went fine. if you have a day of coordinator or anything like that then i think it should be ok.

We couldn't do our rehearsal at the venue the night before, because there was another wedding. Instead, we picked a place for the rehearsal dinner where we could have a private room, and did a run through there. Mostly for the readers/officiant to practice, and to make sure the kids (flower girl and ring bearer) knew approximately where to go.

Day of isn't so bad if you don't mind seeing your FH the morning of your wedding, and if you're getting ready at the same place or very near. You can do a rehearsal first thing in the morning, then start getting ready!

Thanks for the tips! theres actually only 4 people total in our wedding party (not counting the officiator) so we cant really do it without our wedding party haha. i think a quick run through the day of will just have to be what we do. i know you can rehearse anywhere, not just at your wedding venue, but our venue is very different as far as layout goes and involves a stage/etc. so i really wanted everyone to be comfortable with it. it will all be fine though

Our venue let us know fairly last minute that our rehearsal needed to be the morning before the wedding when basically the whole time they had nothing booked the night before so we could have had it the night before. It also made our timeline less than ideal :/ If most people won't be in town maybe just you, your FS and DOC or anyone in town can walk through the weekend before? It's honestly not too complicated and as long as you and the people lining up and signalling your bridal party understand the timings and flow you should be fine! I definitely couldn't have imagined the stress of being at the venue hours early, interpreting pictures etc for a day of rehearsal

Can you take it somewhere else & do it the day before? Even if it's a park or something. You mention that a portion of your wedding are out of town - did they book with a hotel block? Could you reach out to the hotel & see if they have a conference room or something similar available that you can use?

I would do it the night before, but use a different location. Can you see if your venue will allow you and your bridal party to spend 5 minutes just looking so they can picture where they will go? We had our "rehearsal" of how and who was walking and when in a separate room because our ceremony location was actually a restaurant. After we practiced walking and had the line up down, we walked into the restaurant so they could get an idea of where they would be walking. it was a quick 5 minute glance, nothing disruptive.

Is it possible to do the rehearsal in an alternative area the night before? I think that would be a good solution.

Agreed! You will already have so much going on the day of! If you can’t do it at the venue, I’d try to run through it anyways somewhere else!

Our rehearsal was planned for 2:00 on Saturday with the Wedding at 3:00. You know that the Rehearsal did NOT happen.

We were getting dressed. It was still a success.

I had a practice with the 🌺🙇‍♀️in our Living Room last week, so she knew what to do.

I had the 💍🐻er’s (he’ll be 3 on Monday) Dad walk him down the Aisle so that he actually got to the front.

Everyone else has been in at least one Wedding.

    So, it all worked out.

Does your contract state anywhere that your rehearsal will be held at the venue the day before the wedding? If so, I’d make them honor that. They can change the time of your rehearsal maybe?
