Ceremony & Reception timeline

Monica, on July 10, 2019 at 6:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I didnt want to have to think of a timeline just yet, but in order to get quotes from some vendors Im sure they will ask how many hours will the reception be. So I figured I might as well just come up with a timeline now & adjust it later on if needed. We will be having a Mexican/American wedding and estimating about 1 hour for the ceremony and 5-6 hours for the reception.

In reality, if you are having a good time how long would you want to dance? I want to dance all night LOL, im a homebody, I never go out so I want to enjoy the time with family and friends. Also we are considering having a latin band play live music along w our DJ. They said they would play 5 hours. I think 5 hours might be too long for a band?

What do you think? and what do you think about the time line (keep in mind that most guests will be traveling from the bay area california which will take 40min- 1 hour. An hour sounds like a long time but all of us are used to that kind of drive)

That sounds like a pretty good timeline. Could you stagger the band and the DJ? Have the DJ play the first half of the evening to cover the important dances. Then have the band end the evening and maybe have a later reception?

Thanks! Usually the band and DJ coordinate with each other, so the band will play then take a 20-30 minute break while the DJ takes over, then the band plays. The DJ definitely needs to cover the announcements in the first half.

Im thinking of ending the reception at 9pm. That way I get a little extra time to dance and its still not too late at night. That means the reception will be 5.5hours

Lol i just realized I miscounted. 2:30-9pm is 6.5 hours. Oof maybe that is too long. Any other thoughts on my timeline?
