Ceremony now, reception later - help!

Sara, on June 19, 2020 at 12:43 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

We are planning on having our ceremony to be followed by a very small dinner for 30 people (family and closest friends) in early December. We decided this because of Covid and because we're older and would like to try and start our family. We'd like to have a full reception in the spring or summer (fingers crossed for a vaccine). I have so many questions - Is it appropriate for me to wear a fancy dress when there won't be many people there? Can I wear my dress twice? Do we send engagement/ wedding announcements that mention a reception to come in the next few months?

Suggestions? Please help.

Stupid Covid.

I would totally wear your dress twice ! The more chances to wear it, the better!

Here’s what I’m doing very similar unfortunately I didn’t have time to alter my dress so I couldn’t we’re but if you have it wear it twice!!! I’m legally getting married on my original date also with only 30 people I will then send out a save the date saying that we tied the knot but to please re save our new date for the wedding reception so it’s not a secret you are married but you are saying you still want to celebrate with everyone that couldn’t be there. Now more then ever people will understand and truly there’s now proper way of doing anything anymore considering us brides had to change everything during this time so I think we can pretty much just do whatever we want at this point.

Wear you dress as many time as you can! Once you set a date for your larger reception I would send out save the dates and invites.

You should definitely take every opportunity to wear your wedding dress!! 🥰

You can also look for wording ideas by searching for elopement announcements. I've seen some fun wording that acknowledges your marriage and asks guests to save the date for the celebration!

My wedding was scheduled for March 21, 2020 and postponed due to covid to September 3rd, 2020. As September got closer the venue cancelled again and postponed again until September 2, 2021. I did however get married on September 3rd, 2020 with a very small intimate wedding. Now my reception is next year..... what kind of an invitation do I sent out. I'm so confused.
