Ceremony Music for an Outdoor Wedding?

AmandaMarie, on April 28, 2014 at 2:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

My MOH and I were talking yesterday when she mentioned this and I'm so glad she did. I have NO idea how to go about this. FH suggested using a CD player, but I feel like the timing could end up being off or something like that. Any suggestions?

I'm using my DJ. Although my events are in the same location so he wouldn't need to move but he may have to turn his speackers around. My ceremony is in the front yard and reception in backyard.

I used my DJ. He charged a little more for the extra sound system but it was worth it to have a professional be in charge of the music and to have nice equipment for sound

We hired a string duo (cello and violin). It was only $390 for the hour --- so they'll play music as guests arrive and then for a bit at the end of the wedding.

My ceremony and reception are at the same place, but the ceremony will be outside and the reception inside. I doubt my DJ would be willing to relocate after the ceremony.

@Amanda - it's pretty typical for DJs to just bring an extra set of speakers/equipment if you are in 2 different locations. My ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception were all in different locations at the same venue. The DJ just brought 3 sets of speakers and relocated throughout the evening. He charged me like $100-$200 extra for the additional sets. I'd ask your DJ instead of assuming he won't do it

My DJ is doing the ceremony music and my wedding is outside. He has to relocate for the cocktail hour and reception.

We're planning to get something like this and connect out ipod to it. I think our DJ will be willing to operate it (we also have an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception), but if not, we'll ask a trustworthy friend.

@Laudie Very true. I didn't even really think of the possibility that the DJ would bring extra stuff and would be willing to accommodate these types of things. Thanks!

Dj's are used to this; if your ceremony is outside, odds are your officiant will need a mic too; a string quartet or trio won't usually use amplification (which is fine) but you'll still have to deal with that.
