Ceremony, How to give out programs.

Mrs. Fornasty, on February 9, 2012 at 9:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I am not having ushers. I was thinking of putting the programs, either a) in the chair bow so that it would be in the front of you ( the front row would have them on there chair) and tie a thing of bubbles to each program, or B) in a basket at the back of the aisle for people to pick up on there own as they are being seated with a basket of bubbles next to it. Any other options?

We are doing what Reina stated - placing them on the individual chairs. I fear that if you just put them in a basket in the back, no one will take them Smiley smile I am gonna force my guests to at least pick them up Smiley smile

You can have a program attendant without having ushers. We are having both. In my experience, if you just leave them for people to take, they won't and you'll end up with 1) A lot of wasted programs, 2) people getting up in the middle of the ceremony to get one, 3) confused guests, or 4) a combination of the previous.

I would definitely recommend having a program attendant. If not, then I would definitely put them on each chair, rather than leaving them in a basket.

A program attendant is also a good way to include someone else in the wedding if you were looking to do so. We're asking my FH's good friend from school...he didn't quite make the cut to be a GM, but he is a really great guy and very personable...I know our guests will enjoy his warm energy as a breath of fresh air when they enter the church!

Also, another thing to consider is that my DOC said that she can handle the programs if we didn't already have a plan for them.

At a friend of mine's wedding she had her little neice do it and she was also dressed in her colors and greeted all the guests by saying, "welcome to Ronnie and Kelly's wedding!" sooooo cute!!!!! She must've been 10 or 11

Thanks for bringing this up! I was wondering the same thing ;o)

Typically ushers (or groomsmen in some cases) are the ones to hand out the programs and walk the guests to their seat. Since I'm having a total of 8 guests, my sister (MOH) will place them on the seats.
