Centerpieces

I am torn between finding a florist or doing the decor myself. I have a few ideas for centerpieces etc but dont know where to start. I would love to just hire an event planner but by busget won’t allow me.

My florist is doing my bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages but when she told me she was going to charge $80 a centerpiece I almost fell over! Ended up making them myself with real touch flowers from Amazon, garlands and lanterns from Hobby Lobby, etc. for about $25 each. Definitely the way to go if you’re looking to save some money - for the amount of centerpieces I needed I ended up saving myself nearly $700!

I'm having a florist do the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres, and buying bulk tulips and baby's breath from her to DIY centerpieces and pew decor for the ceremony.

They are small real ones. I think they’re 1.5 in wide and 3 high. They were I think $20 or so in a 12 pack from Amazon 😊

You could do a hybrid centerpiece. My fiancé and I have a homestead and I do a ton of canning. I grow my own berries and I make jam. So we are using some large mason jars for the flowers and then 8oz and 4oz quilted jam jars with tea lights in them. I am making 4oz jars of jam (in the quilted jars) as the favors. There is a farm near our venue that grows their own flowers and they are also a florist. So by cutting out the middleman on the floral end, I am saving a ton with providing my own jars that I already have. So maybe something like that? Make the centerpieces minus the flowers and then just have a florist tie it together? Check what zone you are in on the USDA map and you will be able to see what flowers will be in season in your area. In season flowers are always less costly.

EDIT TO ADD: I originally was going to just go to the craft store and buy fake flowers and make everything myself, but after doing the math, it actually cost less to do it this way with the real flowers. This includes my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 8 boutonnières (groom, 4 groomsmen, FOB, FOG, and SFOG), 4 wrist corsages, and 20 mason jar bouquets for centerpieces/décor). Definitely get a bunch of quotes and price out all of your options. Good luck!

You can order wholesale flowers from Costco and they deliver them to your house! There are lots of YouTube videos using Costco flowers for centerpieces.

We have a decorator doing ours, but my BIL is getting married after us and they are getting their flowers from a florist, but the florist is going to show them out to create the centerpieces and they are going to do the centerpieces themselves. It was cheaper this way.

Up until a month or so ago, I was set on doing the flowers myself. I was going to buy the flowers the morning of the wedding (ceremony isn't until 6pm), put everything together at the hotel, take a picture of how I wanted it to look and then deploy my family and friends to take the centerpieces to the reception and arrange based on the picture. Luckily, FH's cousin messaged me that she used to work as a florist and volunteered to take that aspect off my hands. She worked with the flower farm owner in the area and got the flowers at wholesale rate. I gave her the general idea of what I want, but trust that she'll take care of it. Good luck!
