Centerpieces w/ Lemon slices?

Capt&MrsMatey =), on July 31, 2013 at 4:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I never would have thought of this, but my photographer did another wedding & changed her FB cover photo to a mason jar with what looks like wisteria blossoms & lemon slices in the jar with the water. Idk if it's genius or weird, but i kinda like it. I LOVE lemons & it would bring more color to the table than just the flowers alone. They're dirt-cheap & I wouldn't be forced to find another use for them, like those crystals some people use. Has anyone else seen this, & does it affect the flowers at all? I mean, it's not like dunking them in lemonade or anything, but that's the only thing holding me back.

I think this looks great! Lemon juice is used to keep flowers fresher longer. So it would be a bonus.

I love the look of these. I've seen it done once where it was actually a vase inside another vase and the lemon slices were between the two vases so they never actually came in contact with the flowers.

We considered doing something like it w/ limes (apple green was one of our colors).

We ended up using Granny Smith apples for lots of the decor and skipping the limes, but I love the look.

I like Jules's idea though you'd spend for double the glassware, perhaps. Hopefully a florist on here can confirm whether it would have any impact on the blooms.

I always wondered if the lemons (or limes) would make the water cloudy.

The photo you posted is not wisteria, it's called, "stock". It comes in a variety of colors. The acid in the lemons can be helpful the the flowers, so this is something you can do.

Sold! I already have mason jars in my pantry all ready to go. I might use a diff flower; I suppose I should assign someone to set them up on wedding day. Maybe my slacker MOH sister?? Lol

I love it. Seems to add to the summer feel of things and very fresh looking. I have been trying to think of what to use instead of the rocks and such like you mentioned but my colors are purples and silver.

I've seen this done with dyed lemons, too, though not sure how that's done.

Edited to say that apparently the dyed lemons are just photoshopped Smiley sad

Another idea is to get a big and little vase and add the lemons in between the two, otherwise they will float freely.

If you're DIY, test this out before the big day for changes in odor, color, etc. If you're hiring a florist you should check with them as well.

I have heard that in some Asian cultures lemons (IDK if it matters whether they're whole or cut) are a good luck symbol but I don't know for sure if that's true.

Love this look! We are doing something similar for my friends bridal shower, except we are leaving the lemons whole.
